Doing some research on my next upper for my SPR build, and using the below link as my basis of design…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Navy_Mark_12_Mod_X_Special_Purpose_R ifle

Shopping for an upper I found BCM makes one specifically for this type of build.

This is the upper to compare to the lower link…
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-SPR-Mk-12-Mod-Bravo4-p/bcm-urg-mk12-4%20vis12.htm

But when compared to the Standard 18” BCM 410 SS upper, I don’t really see a difference…

Besides for the rail, where is the $560 price difference coming from?

a few things.

first one includes a BCG. it also includes the one piece VLTOR upper recevier/handguard (monolithic). It also includes a charging handle.

+1, the VIS is MUCH nicer than an MI rail, imo

Still a difference of $402 if I account for the BCG and basic charging handle.

I didnít realize it was a 1 piece. Looks pretty expensive.

If thatís the only difference, I would assume from a performance standpoint they would shoot the same?

Thanks pacrimguru,

I was hoping you would chime into this thread. I really like the SPR you build.

Iíll have to do some research on this rail vs getting a free float quad rail as a replacement down the road.

Performance is my main goal here, so if they shoot the same, itís hard to justify the 1 piece rail since I am only going to have a scope mounted + bipod.

the VLOT monolithic upper by itself is $760
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/VLTOR-VIS-RIFLE-Length-p/vltor%20vis%20-%203ak%20rifle%20length.htm

a upper receiver + the Midwest Industries handguard is only $255

http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Upper-Receiver-assembly-M4-Flat-Top-p/flat%20top%20-upper%20-m4%202.htm
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Midwest-Industries-MI-T15-p/mi%20t%2015.htm

So the cost savings is $505 in just upper receiver alone, then add $140 for a BCG.

Ok, that upper cost was an eye opener.

Just for argument sake... what about when compared to a more like for like upper.

Is that rail really worth an additional $295?

those differences are a judgment call on your end. i'd go with the PRI handguard since it is used on the real mk12's.

the VIS is nice but VERY expensive. will it make it shoot better than the MI or PRI? probably not. but i do love VLTOR VIS systems. but yes, of the three choices, i'd go with the PRI set up for it's authenticity. but if budget is your main concern, the MI build will shoot just as well.

Ive always like the Mod 0 better than the Mod 1. PRI makes good stuff and the hand guard looks awesome on an SPR.

This is a version I built a while ago.

Go with the PRI hand guard as it doesnt have as much wallet shock to it as the VIS platform. Also the PRI has a decent amount of top side real estate that is uninterrupted which gets a big +1 in my book. IMO PRI is as good if not better then KAC the difference is cost between the two.

Just looked at the BCM website and the PRI models dont come with the same hand guard that offers uninterrupted top rail real estate. Although the military does have that variant floating around in use. Looking at what Bravos web site and what they have to offer for the SPR mark 12 options I would go with the VIS mark 4 option as this gives you more mounting options with the real estate offered on it. again just IMO
