Well, I finally got the retro AR to the range to zero in the original Aimpoint Electronic sight. It took some doing to find the correct batteries, but they are still available, despite what the Aimpoint websight says. All windage and elevation adjustments are external on the mount. But zeroing was pretty straightforward. I used a weaver adaptor to attach it, tightened it down and had it on target in less than 10 rounds. The objective lens is only about 1/2 inch in diameter. But the sight picture was surprisingly good. There is a bit of a green tint to the glass. I would say it is on par with many of the current generation red dot sights by companies like Primary Arms in terms of clarity. The red dot itself is crisp and clear. Considering that this model was discontinued in 1979, it still provides a very effective, user-friendly sight.

I apologize for the camera phone pictures, but I am in the middle of a move, and the real camera is currently packed.

I forgot, that group was standing offhand at 25 yards.

(Edit) I picked the scope up at a local shop, NIB. It had been tucked in storage there since the 1980s. You can find them on gunbroker or ebay in the 30-60 dollar range. Zbatteries online carries the oddball batteries.

Haha, I have one just like it. Took me some time to find batteries too and it works fine! Haven't mounted it on anything but may eventually. Cool report! -Ben

Looks nice but out of place with that rifle. I would have gone with an OEG for the classic tacticool look.

Actually, the scope may well be older than the M16A1 upper it is on. That is the main reason I built this retro. Otherwise it would have been much easier to put together an A2 and call it a day. ;)
