Montana if you like the cold. Arizona of you like the heat. Utah if you want seasons.
Find a place out of the way and shoot out your back door.

Oregon. Lots of trucking business along the I5 corridor between Washington and California.
Pretty nice weather in parts, cheaper than California, not sure about their gun laws though. Idaho is nice, lots of trucking jobs hauling for Simplot.

And yeah, don't text in California in a Big Rig. Serious Ticket.

I don't text while I drive. When I get a min I'll jump on here for a few. At the time I was at a dock but half way through they came and got me do I rushed. Believe me I know how dangerious it is. I drove a big rig tow truck and a regular tow truck for two years.

I never looked into Utah. I hear there is not much there. I'm looking for a range with competitions, nice, not just a big open field. My goal is to shoot full time or get high in the ranks. Now I say full time as in I'll have a way to make a self sustain income.

I heard Vegas area has a huge crime rate and people always break into yr house but I have no idea. The biggest shooting range in the country is there

I think I would go for Utah.
I've got my parents and a brother currently living in Henderson, but it's just too damn hot sometimes. That being said, kinda knocks AZ outta there as well.
Too bad for myself, none of this really matters. To the wife, if it's not with in 10 minutes of mommy, I might as well suggest moving to the moon. Because it won't make a difference, it's just not happening.

There is a right to keep and bear arms for self-defense in the Oregon Constitution. We didn't have to worry about the outcome of the McDonald decision
No "assault weapon" or .50 BMG ban
No magazine capacity limits
"Shall issue" concealed weapon permits
Loaded open carry is legal and requires no permit, except in a few cities. Loaded open or concealed carry legal in those cities with the "shall issue" CCW
No 10-day waiting period
No 1-per-month handgun purchase limit
No "safe handgun" roster
No Handgun Safety Certificate
No sales restrictions/hassles with handgun ammo (AB 962)
No DROS or FFL middleman (and fees) needed for private sales outside of gun shows. If you are a private seller at a gun show the Oregon State Police provides a phone number you can call to perform a NICS background check.
Full auto and suppressors are legal

As long as you don't live within city limits, an Oregon county can't prevent you from shooting on your own property as long as it is safe.

166.171 Authority of county to regulate discharge of firearms. (1) A county may adopt ordinances to regulate, restrict or prohibit the discharge of firearms within their boundaries.

(2) Ordinances adopted under subsection (1) of this section may not apply to or affect:

(a) A person discharging a firearm in the lawful defense of person or property.

(b) A person discharging a firearm in the course of lawful hunting.

(c) A landowner and guests of the landowner discharging a firearm, when the discharge will not endanger adjacent persons or property.

(d) A person discharging a firearm on a public or private shooting range, shooting gallery or other area designed and built for the purpose of target shooting.

(e) A person discharging a firearm in the course of target shooting on public land that is not inside an urban growth boundary or the boundary of a city, if the discharge will not endanger persons or property.

(f) An employee of the United States Department of Agriculture, acting within the scope of employment, discharging a firearm in the course of the lawful taking of wildlife. [1995 s.s. c.1 2; 2009 c.556 1]

Utah is not a bad area to live. Nevada is another one if you want to stay close to California. I'd like the idea of just strolling out to the backyard to see how your hand loads perform. I used to live in Utah during my active military career and we used to go out and set up from 5 yards to more than 1000 yards. My 270 Win hunting rifle will hurt my shoulder after about 40 rounds of shooting, but I've sent 130 and 140 grain bullets out to 1200 yards and connected. I suppose if you live in So Cal like San Bernardino you can set up your range.

Raton, NM - NRA Whittington Center - a few hours south of Colorado Springs, CO. A HUGE range complex with local, regional, national and international matches.

Bad, but not as bad as California or Nevada.

Unemployment rate Aug. 2010 http://www.bls.gov/web/laus/laumstrk.htm

Utah 7.4%
US national average 9.6%
Arizona 9.7%
Oregon 10.6%
California 12.4%
Nevada 14.4%

Any good places in Utah? Shooting complexes and cities? I have litteraly been all over Oregon but only traveled through Utah. I have no idea what that state is even like. What cities and ranges are good? What are bad?

I do really like Portland. I always wanted to get a job on the water, tug boat, bardge, something boat. I like bend or but don't know much about it. Just beautiful out there.

I did know that range is in Sherwood. I been there Tigard and McMinnville a few hundred times. Beautiful area not sure what jobs are there. I'll take a look.

There is a HUGE facility 24 miles east of Bend. Lots of competition and shooting activity. They just refurbished the 1000 yard "John Nosler" range. Upgraded all the berms from 200 on back to 1000, and redid the pits. The area is pretty gun freindly.
If you like competition, it is still hard to beat Kalifornik. A lot goes on here, and we can shoot most all of the year.
Too bad the inmates are running the assylum.

I would look at the places where the interstate highways meet, it gives you much more opportunity for loads without dead heading as much, Salt Lake City, Albuquerque, Cheyenne or even Vegas.

Lived in UT for two years while I went to school. Low crime rate, above average education rate for population, beautiful scenery, less people in the entire state than in just the Sacto area...

Really cold in the winter. The license plates don't say "greatest snow on earth" for no reason. There are some quirks that you have to learn to live with ("fry sauce"?), but if you have a good paying job your dollar can get you a nice standard of living.

Great gun shows in Salt Lake, AFAIK class III weapons no problem, no magazine restrictions or assault weapons ban of any kind, CCW's issued to anyone who pays the fee and is not precluded.
