so i'm on ar15 bulder trying to put it all together and i am stuck on what barrel to get i know i want a 1:9 twist rate and chrome lined. what do people think of double star, beaver creek, and dpms? i know dpms has a good rep. but i have never heard about their barrels and so far the ones they offer on there arent chrome lined. pretty much are beaver creek or double star barrels any good?

I regard the barrels you mention to be entry level. If you want top shelf, you'll want Noveske and the like.

ya i've heard that all before but i'm just a specialist in the army i really dont get paid too much. plus i just got a wife... i would love a noveske or to get a colt or somthin but i'm looking for longer lasting more than precision. lets put it this way as long as i can hit a silhouette target at 300 meters with it i'm happy. i dont plan on doing any comps with it or anything i just plan to go out and have some fun but i still want a little bit of accuracy. i will be shooting lighter grained bullets nothing above a 62gr. that why i want the chrome lined and 1:9 cuz with the combination of those two things that creates a longer lasting barrel. that's why i need to know which ones are the better of the brands.

You might wanna look into a STAG barrel.

My God, I can't believe I just said that.

Ain't NOTHING wrong with STAG barrels at all, especially if you can find one of the new 1/7 units.

Daniel Defense CHF barrels are pretty good.

I have zero clue about the quality of the barrels you listed OP.

I usually buy a Obermeyer or Krieger barrel and have Compass Lake Engineering fit it to my receiver and bolt.

Obermeyer and Krieger undoubtedly the best. All the others mentioned in this thread are most likely made by the same 1 or 2 MFG's. with different markings on them.

Armalite is leaps & bounds above such names as DPMS (especially!), Olympic, RRA (Wilson...which actually ARE decent), Bushmaster, etc...... But if you simply want THE best, look no further: Krieger. (A VERY close second is SATERN....they ship a matched bolt with each BBL)

OP...

If you can find a DD barrel, you'll be good to go. They were selling like mad a few months ago with various retailers at about $165.

I would suggest a BCM or Daniel Defense barrel in midlength gas.

You could go with Lothar Walther Call them and see if they have chrome lined.

From their website:
AR 15 16" contour (all with M4 extensions): 9" twist, normal steel, in the white, not chrome lined, match type.

- M4 contour $ 150

- M4 contour stainless $ 175

- Medium contour $ 150

- Very, very light contour $ 150

chrome lined is noce but not necessary.
lilja has some ar barrels that kick tail.
i have a 20" on my ar and i hit 3" at 300 all day laying prone on a bipod.

Chrome lining is just "jungle-proofing" and adds nothing for accuracy or effective barrel life.

well i'm all about jungle proofin it then i guess like i said i just want it to last a long time and be able to take a beating.

also check out rock creek have em on both of my semi autos and they are a wonder to shoot.

a buddy of mine really likes lilja barrels and he stands by their barrels for accuracy and quality.

Kreiger barrels are top notch and I have a couple of bolt actions with their barrels and couldnt be happier.

TO OP the DD barrels can be found at the $159 level I think ADDAx has some still, maybe Rifle gear. 1:7 though, Black Hole Weaponry(?) has 1:8 I believe, not too costly. Give those places a try.

Yup, we still have some of the mil-spec (non hammerforged) Daniel Defense M4 Carbine barrels in stock.

We are also working directly with Black Hole Weaponry.

BHW is making specific barrels to our specifications for use on our new DI and Piston Uppers and Rifles.

If you guys want BHW barrels at a really great price, give me a call.
