GOA is reporting (http://www.gunowners.org/a052406.htm) that pro-gun Rep. Rick Renzi (R-AZ) is going to introduce a bill to amend the US Firearms laws to allow an FFL to sell to a resident of any state in person and only based on the state laws in effect at the place of the transaction.

Road trips to Reno or Vegas to buy those not on the CA list handguns may become feasible.

Call your House Member and urge them to co-sponsor.

I understand that if it passes you could go to another state and buy the gun of your dreams but California won't allow any handgun not on the approved list in unless you owned it out of state in the first place. I doubt this state would allow any change on that. They would lose out on the ton of "blackmail" money they get from the manufactures. A SS .45 model X has to be tested as well as a blued .45 model X as well as a dual tone of the same model. You and I know that one model should be enough for testing but at the tens of thousands of dollars they get for each one they will never give up that money. That is why companies like STI and SVI who make ISPC style guns can't afford the money to send everything in to tested in CA and if you can find one to do a PPT it will cost you mucho $ and your first born.

If the bill works, you could buy a non-list handgun at an out of state FFL and leave it at your out of state place...

The CA handgun list law only bans the importation of an off list handgun for sale. It does not ban the general importation of a handgun. It was passed in an environment that assumed one would have to buy from an out of state FFL by going through an in state FFL. The proposed national law would change that paradigm.

This would also allow Californians to purchase SB-23 banned weapons out of state and modify them while out of state to bring them in legally. Anyone know if I can pin the mag on a SIG-556?

If this passed CA legislation would move to poop the party real quick. Don't get your hopes up.

you do realize that the only type of "National Shall-Issue CCW Bill" that should be out there is the one modeled on those of Vermont and Alaska. otherwise it's not a right but only... can't find a good word here, sop?

This bill will basically cause complete chaos in California if it gets passed. Such chaos would be welcome :D. Even if the Cali legislature moves to attempt to block it through some crazy patchwork legislation we will still have a few months to max out our credit cards in Nevada with off-list goodness :)!

sweet!!!

About time we have some federal action chipping back in the right direction. . . instead of just neutral news. . . (AWB sunset). I wish there was a steady stream of these types of meaningful pro-gun bills to counter the constant anti-gun bills.

Renzi's my new hero. Now I've gotta see about Gun Owners of America membership.
