Picked it up yesterday. Seems like a nice rifle. Not cheap at all. I am happy.

I have a question. I waited the 10 days, got it from a FFL dealer (out of his house) but the receipt was real generic. Model of rifle, no s/n. taxes, dros fee, rifle, etc. Then total. No name nor FFL number. He is a FFL dealer though. I looked him up. Anything to worry about? How could I verify it's in my name?

Thanks

Nothing is in your name. There is no registration for long guns.

Another question? Dealer said you can't get these rifles anymore. Something to do with exporting them into the USA. Anyone heard of this?

Roger's Relic's is a home based FFL in Santa Clara.

The 545's are in short supply, the 762 guns are not.

+1 for Rogers. Him and Linda are good people :)

I start DROS on my Saiga on Monday. From what I hear the 308 model will no longer be imported but the other models will.

No, it was in S. California

Hummm, good to know, but he said 762. I wonder if he didn't have a supplier anymore or what. Glad I got my deal. $380 OTD fees incl.

I'm against converting Saigas. I like my just the way it is. I think that if you want a more traditional looking AK, just build your own. Or, if you're lazy, buy a WASR.

It was. The rifle was like $308 or something plus fees if I remember. Total was $380 is all I paid. Well worth it. I would have bought two if he had another. lol

I do like its current look and have a AR already. Thinking about just putting a scope on it as well. Are these barrels "rifled"? Not sure of correct term.

Truer words not spoken! I love my Saiga as is, shoots well, functions perfect! Though I am partial to a standard type of stock(raised on that style), I have shot a few AK's and AR's....don't see the big deal with a pistol grip! I even converted my 10/22(don"t laugh) to a pistol grip because it was cheap...I see no real advantage!

No! "Most modern firearms" is a very broad statement. There are millions and millions of modern smoothbores made every year. Have you ever heard of a "shotgun"?

A shotgun isnt a rifle...and yes i should excluded shotguns.but this is the centerfire rifle forum so figure it out. Also not talking about repos of old rifles.and of course its a broad statement i wasnt aiming to be technical.

You wont be able to get them to sell it to you.Unless its a irresponsible seller. But im almost certain they wont sell it to you.You can only buy 10 round mags if you live in cali. But if you can get ur hands on a 30 rounder then its legal.illegal for the seller to sell it to cali residents not illegal to own though.Look for a 10 round mag.

Not so fast friend, you can't buy 30rd mags. There are a number of thread on this topic about cali law and 11+ mags.

Well, some shotguns do have rifling, that's a whole nother thing though. But, you did not say "rifle" you said "firearms" which would include many things besides rifles.

You won't be able to get any 30rd'ers in CA, unless you owned them prior to 2000. Unless you need to rebuild some existing mags, and purchase a rebuild kit!

To assemble a rebuild kit as a complete mag would be unlawful!

So, if I have a 30 round for my AR prior to 2000, it's legal to own since I already have it? Didn't know that.

The AR is a whole 'nother ballgame.

Assuming the AR has a pistol grip and flash hider, it is not featureless (the new Saiga is), so it must use a bullet button to fix the magazine.

11+rd magazines in a fixed-magazine rifle = felony AW possession.

You can use the 30rd AR mags in a legally registered assault weapon or a "featureless" AR build only.

Pistol grip, no flash hider. But only need one of two..lol

Thanks for the detailed clarification.

I know, I know....it is an F'ing joke.....CA laws! Don't give up, keep searching and learning...it will somewhat make sense(at least be able to comply with)...just don't do anything to get you in more trouble than you can afford to get out of!

You will need to permanently modify your Saiga's mag catch if you want to do this. I think the part you are refering to is a bullet guide. Installing a BG in your rifle will take it out of "sporting configuration" on a Federal level. So, you will also have to play the 922(r) parts game if you install a BG.

To be able to have evil features like a pistol grip.

????? Installing a BG would not mean that it would need a mag lock. Instead, it would allow the rifle to accept 20, 30 and 40 round AK mags as well as 75 round drums. You could not install those into a converted Saiga with evil features.
