From what I've read you can shoot 223 in a 5.56 rifle but not the other way around.

Is this correct?

And if this is correct who makes a 223 only rifle? All the ones I see say 5.56.

Is the only difference between the rounds higher pressure in the 5.56.

Yes.

Many bolt-actions and commercial semi-auto rifles are chambered for .223 rather than 5.56. Most military-style rifles are chambered for 5.56, but there are enough out there in .223 that you should check them first. If it is stamped .223, only use .223 in it.

I have heard that the Mini-14 is stamped .223 on the barrel but Ruger says it will handle 5.56 safely, that's the only one I've heard of that is like that.

Is the only difference between the rounds higher pressure in the 5.56.

In addition to the higher pressure, a 5.56 chamber has a longer throat than a .223 chamber, so a 5.56 round can be longer than a .223 round and still chamber properly. If you put that same longer round in a .223 chamber you could have problems.

I have a Colt AR15A3 which is stamped .223. However, when I go to the Colt website, it states that the AR15A3 "Accommodates the full range of 5.56 ammunition" Does anyone know if the Colt AR15A3 can shoot both 223 and 5.56? Thanks.
