How important is my dros receipt for my OLL. I recently lost my receipt (along with a few other important documents) when my aquarium broke and caused a small electrical fire I know I know not a great idea keeping documents like that anywhere near things that can destroy them. hindsight is 20/20
And if it is going to be something I need to have if and when the list comes (or for whatever) can I get a copy from the place where I dros'ed it?
thanks

Aren't FFLs supposed to keep them around?

All the DOJ is going to care about if they do list is getting the serial number, caliber, and owner's info. They could care less about from who or when you purchased it so long as it was lawfully aquired before the cut-off date. I believe the law for registration only states that you must have "aquired" the firearm before the cut-off date. Hence it would even be lawful to have "found" an off-list lower sitting along the road in theory.

Keep in mind though that I'm not an attorney so if you do have the dros reciepts laying around you should hang on to them for safe keeping anyhow. I don't have all of mine though, some have been misplaced... I'm not really the type who hangs on to receipts for long periods of time anyhow though.

The DROS receipt for your OLL isn't very important at all. If you like to keep extra records of your purchases, then hang on to it, but it is not that important.

If it is questioned, all you need to know is the shop you bought it from, and maybe an approximate purchase date, and the sale will be recorded on a 4473 somewhere.

And oh yeah, if you bought anything from tenpercent or the group buys back in December 2005 then the DOJ DEFINITELY knows what you got and who you are so you won't have to prove anything in that case :P!

thanks alot guys for the quick responses you really put my mind to ease. I purchased it from SJGE, no group buys.... Now I just gotta worry about the other documents and the 500 bucks I lost in corals and fish
