I'm considering my first shotgun...

Whether I should get a FN TPS or a 870...

I am really not familiar with all the in&outs of shotguns...

I think I'll try to use this shotgun for both tactical shooting sport(ie. IPSC 3 guns) and try to shoot some sporting clays. And I do understand they are very diff sport, but I just want a shotgun to start, I don't need the "perfect" shotgun for each of these sport yet.

I think I want to be able to get the most flexible one that I can shoot buckshots, slugs as well as regular shot loads.

I think the good thing about the TPS is that I can use my AR accessories... and it comes with a ported barrel (is this similar to vang-comp?)

And for the 870, I think for an 870, I have many choices of configuration, I can pick one with pistol grip, or, I can just pick one without it(there is no way to make the TPS use a regular rifle stock, right?)

I've only fired the Rem 870 with the long barrel not the 870 expess. Theres a big difference in recoil. The tps has its kick, but its not bad. Not for me anyways. The sights are a little tough to get used to but you'll get a feel of it.

An 870 Express Combo (the one that comes with two barrels) is going to be more versatile and cheaper than the TPS. Heck, you could get two 870s for the price of the TPS if you look hard enough.

Big 5 usually has the 28" barrel 870 Express for $269 and the 18" synthetic (with 7 round magazine) for $299.
