View Full Version : AR 308 @ the Shoot n Q - What optics
09-12-2010, 9:00 AM
I picked up a Remington AR25 (AR sporting rifle in 308) a few weeks ago. I have been looking for optics for the rifle.
I normally shoot Angeles steel and I hope to be ready for the Nov 7th Shoot n Q at Burros, we have both the East 1 and 2 ranges for the General shooting line.
Oh: Benchrest rifle only, I use MILSURP Ammo and shoot at steel and targets.

Congrats on the buy, I just finished my first ar-308! I don't know what your price range is but... For a great inexpensive scope I like the millet trs-1 or lrs-1. IMHO the are the best in the price range. Also vortex are great just a bit more expensive. Just my 2 cents. Hope this help

Hmm, lets call the price range $300 to $350
Mainly because I need to buy a bipod

I picked up a Weaver Grand Slam Tactical 3-10X from Midway, it's been getting very good reviews on snipershide.com
It is normally $400, but on sale for $299 right now.

I have a Millet DMS-1 on my .308 and love it. True 1x-4x with illuminated reticle. Solid and quick aquisition from 0-400 yds. They run from $219-250 out the door.

Millet, Super Sniper, Bushnell Elite, Nikon
Those are good brands for their scopes $300-$350

Either Millet or SWFA Super Sniper

Bushnell Elite Mil Dot.

I'm real happy with my Bushnell Elite 3200 Tactical 10x fixed mil dot. Never have to worry about dialing the right power to get the mil-dots sized right. Just hold-over and shoot. It's also easier to mil targets for range with a fixed scope IMHO. Make sure you get the one with the 1/4 minute turrets though, not the mil turrets. Midway's got em for about $220.

SWFA SS 10X is very clear and has military knobs. It comes in 2 flavors. A 10X no side parallax $299, a 10x w/side parallax $399 and a HD 10x which cost more money $$$. The SS scope has a great rating at Snipershide.
Heres a pic of the scope mounted on my rifle. (I might be selling the scope and mount in a few days)

Super Sniper 10x or a Bushnell Elite
The Bushnell has excellent glass for this price range

Yup, the Bushnell and SWFA SS 10x will fit the bill very nicely.
Jacob, are you running precision rifleman for your team?
