I have several ak's at the moment but none I would truly call a pure beater in the sense. I want one that isn't going to break the bank, and something that I can throw in the back of my truck and not have to worry. It may get clean, it may not, again something to abuse and not worry too much about. And yes I know some people prescribe this for every ak, but I own several nice ones that I take very good care of. You guys got any suggestions on what I should get? Just wish this state didn't have so many damn restrictions.

WASR or, better yet, build your own.

BTW, all AKs are "beaters". Some are just nicer beaters with better fit and finish. But, they are all just beaters!

By the time you've paid all the fees OTD for a WASR, you're still looking at a $500 rifle. I don't know about you, but I'd be a little reluctant to abuse something that cost me $500.

I would buy a $99 parts kit from CFS and a barrel from Arms of America, and build a rifle for less than $300. If it gets too beat up later on, just rebuild it.

$135 egyptian kit from apex, $115 chrome lined barrel from apex, $40 flat and build parts

nice AK to beat around for less than 300 bucks that you built.

$99 romy kit from centerfire, $69 US made barrel, $40 flat and build parts

another for under 250

Build it yourself, beat it like a runaway stepchild, rebuild, repeat as required.

WASR...If you can not build or need instant gratification the WASR is unbeatable.

You could beat a hoard of zombies to death with a Yugo M70 and it would still work flawlessly.

^what he said. They all pretty much work the same. Price point largely determins form, not function.

my thoughts precisely.

That is why I have one as a beater rifle/gun.
