For those gunowners who missed the 50BMG boat, but did NOT miss the offlist lower boat, can they build a .510DTC rifle without the mag release parts (but with the pistol grip) or does the mag well have to be welded shut in order for this to be legit?

Heck, for the cost of this B.S., might as well buy a Serbu BFG-50 or 50A in .510DTC! :D

The 50A will be available in TWO WEEKS!

510DTC should not be a problem on a offlist lower, since its a bolt action single shot rifle, of course thats just an opinion until actual law hits the books.

Two weeks huh!! I ain't holding my breath.

I was thinking of getting that too. MREGUNS.com in NV is selling them for $175, but being the cheapskate the I am, I thought I can go with an offlist lower since they can be had for a lot cheaper.

Mark Serbu has a working 50A model, but who knows when the pinned mag 50A model in .510DTC will make it to this sorry state!

Even if you have a 510DTC upper, you should still have a 10rd fixed mag or a filler block screwed down in place in the lower.

Never have an AR-type lower with pistol grip or telestock and an open magwell - even if your upper is bolt action and/or rimfire.

I dare you to squeeze off a round offhand with that!

Bill,

As always, your wisdom and intellect never ceases to amaze us. ;)

If someone was to pin/install a fixed mag in place (in this sort of setup), I assume that the lips of the mag must be grinded off to provide clearance for the bolt to work. And thus, the follower and mag spring will not be used as well.

I am not aware of issues surrounding 510DTC's bolt path or whether there are or are not differences from that of a std AR15 (likely, yes) - but if you need to grind down the lips of a ten buck 5 or 10round mag and not have a spring and follower installed, go for it.

This is just to keep the magwell filled.

Um, if you're trying to pinch pennies, this is the wrong place to do it, just get a single-shot dedicated lower.

Probally legal to put a bolt upper on, and if you had 50gs kicking around for a good defense, I'm sure no convictions will result. Hassle from LE is emminently possible however.

Phish: you mean like THIS: :D http://dreamwithyoureyeswideopen.com/7400/M82A1-Offhand.mov

.510 DTC can be lawfully installed on an off-list lower. However due to the current legal climate involving uppers of any kind being installed on lowers with an open magwell and evil features, I'd opt to go with a fab-10 or DPMS single shot lower to avoid any legal complications. And yeah... if you got the cash for a .510 DTC upper you definition have the cash for an additional lower :).
