How would you 1911 experts rate a Wilson Combat's KZ45? It's a polymer frame double stack 10+1.
And is it worth $950.00? Would you want one?

My brother got one brand new for about 1200-1300 i think.... it's a pretty sweet gun. Shoots well, extremely well fitted and tight. I don't know if I'd spend that kind of cash on a Polymer 1911 myself, but if you want higher capacity its an excellent choice. Compared to my Custom II it had a bit more kick and seemed slightly more accurate.

Tough to argue with Wilson quality for under $1000. I passed up a chance to get one once and have regretted it since.

I enjoy mine - A bit large for my small hands but not uncomfortable - Shoots very straight - Mags are a bit pricey though -

Watch out for feeding issues.

For me, part of the point of a 1911 is single stack.

I concur.

I think I might just jump on a KZ45.....seems like the price is right for a light weight carry.

A polymer 1911 doesn't sound appealing to me.

I have enjoyed mine since the first day I bought it. Mine is ten years old never a problem and just came back from WC from getting the sights changed out since they wore out. Under warranty.

A polymer 1911 doesn't sound appealing to me.

But it's not consider itself a 1911.

Either or, Glocks have proven grounds with their polymer frames. The KZ45 will look like a supermodel next to my G.I.s and modernize steelies.

Wilson Combat bought mine back from me after two trips back to the factory. It was the absolute worst nightmare of a firearm I've ever owned or come into contact with after a decade of shooting and owning dozens of pistols. I put 1,000 rounds through it trying to get it to work, and it would jam at least once per mag, usually 2-3 times. Failures to feed, over and over and over again. My fingers were rubbed raw to the point of bleeding trying to get the action open or slap the back of the slide and fully seat a round in the chamber. The type of ammo did not matter. On the first trip back, I got a phone call from someone at Wilson Combat, that went something like:

"Who did you have work on this gun? The barrel hood and chamber look terrible".

"Well... it's a new gun. You guys did that."

"Oh. Wow. We'll fix it."

They were not able to fix it. To their credit, I got a full refund on the purchase price through a local dealer, and used that to get a CQB, which I no longer own but that gun was excellent. Wilson's customer service satisfied me, but man that was a God-awful weapon. The idea of the KZ really appeals to me, and if I could be guaranteed a reliable weapon, I'd probably own one today.

Can you find the Kimber 10 for cheaper? It's the same frame, just better fit up from Wilson.

Years ago they didn't have a great reputation and the grip angle isn't the same as a 1911 if I remember correctly.

then it'll be kind of hard to warranty or repair the gun if it's discontinued. I'm having second thoughts.

Anyone knows if the KZ takes Para high cap magazines?

Had mine for 8+ years and love it. Never had any FTF or any other problems mentioned above and for that price I would consider owning another one.

Owned one in the past and shot the piss out of it, never had a problem and it made cleaning a breeze. Sold it only to start consolidating ammo to 9mm. If the Wilson SO 9mm was available here in CA, I'd have one.

That would be awesome, I'd jump on a SO 9mm in a heart beat.

My new KZ45 will be home this coming Friday 09-24-10. Thanks for the support and comments. I got a great deal for it. I end up paying 950 from Gunrunners. I believe there is one more left on consignment for that price.
