Have the XD9 so we'll eliminate that from the picture, I know where this is pretty much going to go, but my immediate thoughts are the FNP-9, M&P9, and Glock 19. Open to other suggestions in the general price range as well. I like the FNP-9's sa/da and hammer, but that damn magazine base plate annoys me a little. Don't really care for the beavertail on the M&P, and the glock grip is a bit odd to me (not the angle, just the feel). Want a grip at least the length of the g19's. I have an XD45 compact, and with the flush mags it's just a hair too short with my pinky hanging off but the 19 fits all my fingers. I'm able to adapt pretty good. Even with the funny grip feel, I was able to shoot my G23 quite well. Oh well, I'll sum this up, lets hear it.... EDIT: I already purchased an SW990L $359 NIB. Getting a G19 next month then maybe I'll look at a CZ later. may this thread Rest in Peace! :D

Sig 226 or Glock 34. Both are fine shooters. Personally I prefer the Sig's trigger pull, but many folks shoot the Glock 34 in competition and love them.

I own an M&P9 and really like it. I voted for it above and I highly recommend them.

BUT, since you already have a poly pistol, if you are up for something else, how about the CZ pictured above. I have shot them and I liked them.

Just a thought...

Haven't shot an FNH handgun, but I've read quite a few reviews about the FNP9/FNX9 (virtually the same thing). All the reviews were good... a few neutral/bad, but they were from people just trying it out and didn't put too many rounds in it.

FNP can be a very nice surpise, but glock 19 is hard to beat when you consider the price and the avaliability of parts.

I don't care for shooting my friend's CZ-75B that much since I don't like the way it feels, but that SP-01 pic looks really good. You need to put some good rubber grips on the CZ's because it doesn't feel good with the plastic grips.... for me at least.

You can make a Glock fun to shoot with just a few simple mods, some that doesn't cost anything ($.25 trigger job for example). I always have a lot of fun with my G19 at the defensive handgun courses because it's fun to shoot.

What would be a lot of fun, but nearly impossible to get at this time in CA (unless you find one via PPT, intrafamily transfer one, or are LEO), is a RIA 1911 9mm. I recently shot one and it feels very similar as just as fun as shooting a SA Loaded 9mm, but at half the price.

If you like DA/SA, in your price range, I'd say CZ PCR or P01. Something different and it is alloy frame instead of polymer. Also, the ergos are great.

If not CZ, then P2000 V3 or PX4.

Although I don't have one of the CZ75 type I really think you should get a CZ SP-01 or if you run across one an EAA Witness full size. You'll feel the difference between an all steel gun and your Glock. A 1911 in 9mm is not a bad idea, but those are hard to come by.

I dislike Glocks. Out of the list I picked the FNP-9. It looks cool and I actually think the mag baseplate looks cool too :)

Not on the list? Anything NOT poly/plastic.

I feel weird about 9mm 1911s... seems almost sacrilegious or something ;)

Almost a tie:
1. CZ-75
2. Beretta 92FS

I was going to say the same thing. Tons of aftermarket, huge following in general, and its one of the only guns I've seen to have a 1911 style thumb safety, exposed hammer, half cock, and single action trigger pull that can be cleaned up really well with a trigger job.

M&P 9! I love the ergonomics of this gun. The FNP9 isn't too bad, but a bit large for my hands (shoots great though), and I just dislike the Glock frames in general. Feels like I'm holding onto a big Lego block. Sig pro is meh.... Just doesn't feel like a real Sig.

I would recommend a Glock 19 or M&P 9. I have a G19 and the only reason I don't have a M&P also is because they seem too much alike. I have held a M&P 9 and really liked it but had to walk away. The G19 is one of my favorites, and I don't want to have to choose between 2 similar favorites that fill the same role.

The CZ SP-01 looks like a real nice gun as well but I haven't held or shot one so I can't vouch for how good of a gun it is. It does look like a gun worth getting though. As a matter of fact, every time I see a picture like the one above I am very tempted to check one out.

Im pretty sure that the op is looking for a tactical pistol but I would highly recommend looking into the SR9 with the new trigger and the SR9c. They are some of the most comfortable plastic guns on the market. I was looking at the G19 mainly because I can fit my pinky on the grip but was surprised that I could do the same with the SR9c as well albeit a bit tight unlike most subcompacts out there.

THIS!!!

I own the M&P, M&Pc, and a Taurus PT99. I like them all for different reasons. Honestly, I shoot the best with the Taurus. I am still more novice, so I am guessing the heavier gun helps. My go to emergency gun right now is the M&P full size because I am working with that one more recently.

Personally, the EMP, CZ, or 1911 would be my next option.

I'd have to say FNP, considering I just got mine and the first time shooting it, shot my best group ever.

Having shot a g17, CZ75B (not SP01), M&P9, Ruger SR9, Sig 226, USP 9, 92fs, the FNP was my favorite. The grip on the FN is my favorite. I didn't think I'd like the weight (too light), but it surprised me and I'm a true believer in it's balance. I can't put it into words, but the FN just has that aura to me. It feels like an extension of my hand. Best 9mm I've shot.

Just simply an awesome pistol

I'm undecided but any of the following is on my list of 9mm's to buy. For the retail price of around $550 you can't beat the attractiveness of getting a FNP9 or G19. And for about $650 the CZP01 is also a pretty good buy.

* CZ P01 (it's a bit more compact than the SP01)
* Sig P229
* Glock 19
* Heckler & Koch - P2000 Variant 3
* FNH - FNP-9

I have three 9mm pistols......a Sig 226, Browning HP, and a Kahr PM9. I like them all and they each have their purpose. If I were in the market for another 9mm, I think I would very seriously consider a CZ-USA product. They handle well, shoot accurately, are well made and feel "right." I also own three CZ rifles (.17 HMR, 9.3 X 62, and .375 H&H). I know from experience that CZ puts out a quality product.
