All,

Thinking of finally getting a nice bolt action rifle and the Remington 700 is what I'm looking at getting. Will probably go with a 26" .308 or 24" in 3006 cal., just up in the air on which way I will go.

I'm looking to get some long range type of shooting in, like to stretch out to 1000M and was wondering which way others have gone with a 700 themselves and what scope they would recommend as which cal to go with in my two choices??? Any help would be appreciated...

Was looking at a Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP scope, anyone have experience with this model or would you recommend something else?

Thanks in advance,
Eddie

A lot of us sure have a lot of experience reading about that particular scope. :D

However, it's currently on hold to be re-tooled, with expected delivery for backorders at the end of the year if we're lucky.

I would vote to stick with the .308 to start out. As for scope advice at $1K with FFP, illuminated and matching reticle, unfortunately I don't have any advice to anything that'll come close to the PST's value and price.

You can always just say "screw it" and pick up a Nightforce to tide you over.

Do you reload? If so, go for a 260. If not, get the 308.

A Nightforce NXS 3.5-15 is a tough scope to beat for the money.
