If by "best", you mean most reliable functioning, then any of the Eastern European or Russian AK mags should function fine. Chinese are nice, as they don't have the sharp flat ridge across the back, and more of a blued finish. Hungarian and East German mags tend to have a nice finish on them.

+1. In my chinese/polish AK's, I've used mags from east germany, romania, russia, Bulgaria, poland, china, egypt...all different makes made at different times, never had a failure. This is one of the attributes that makes the AK great, all those mags made to different tolerances, different times, different factories yet they all work. In contrast, you could say, AR's are really picky about their magazines.

But I also find the above less and less true. As more mongoloid AK's made in garages and various US manufacturers, people seem to have more and more mag issues.

I would stay away from Promag/tapco. EQalsPMe3tY

Ive got a small mix of eastern bloc mags and a couple of pro-mags. The pro mags are pieces of garbage. They almost never feed correctly.
