Well living outside of california has many perks. And one that I took forth in today was dropping by the local gun store and picking up a bushmaster BA50
Another being the cash n carry here.

So yeah its big, yeah its nasty... and well I cant wait to go shoot it.
I need to find a scope for it. I have been told that most scopes will not hold up to this little guy.

I'm going out to the desert to sqeeze of a few rounds ths evening after it cools off a bit.

I can not wait...........
Photos to come!!!

You dont need a scope. You just need to get near the target. I think within 6 inches it will rip away flesh.

I swear, other than shooting a .50 cal, one of the coolest things is seeing a layer of dust/dirt rising up all around you from the concussion of the rounds:43:.... sooo fun. I've only fired belt fed though, never from a bolt gun.

Yes I'm in Arizona. Local gun store had sale this weekend. It was under 4k

I just need to find a scope for it now. I just found some iron sites for it.

I was tossing around the AR BMG upper conversion. And also the AR-50. But after looking them over in person. This is the only way to fly. Unless you spring for the Barrett or the McMillen.

The BA50 breaks down easy and has a lot of adjustment. You can adjust the extractor to work with different brands ammunition. Comes with a case thats even got wheels and nicely built. Its also built pretty well. The recoil is nothing, The percussion is well a whole different story...

It is the most fun I have ever had firing a rifle.

May I suggest for a scope you get a Nightforce NXS 5.5X22X56 I have the NP-R2 reticle on both my 50,s as do 2 friends. See Don on the Biggerhammer forum for a good package deal.

Nice... Thanks for the info. Local guy was trying to sell me on a 3k scope saying nothing else would stand up to a bmg after 10 rounds. He said after 8 rounds most scopes loosen up and are crap.

So I wanted to know what works before I buy...

I agree on going with a quality optic for your .50, I have a uso st-22 on my cannon but I've seen plenty of other .50 shooters with entry level scopes such as the super sniper ($300) bushnell's and others under $500 and hold up to the recoil well. If you can afford it get the good stuff but the others will work too!

We went west of town. I spoke with mcso to make sure it was legal 1st. Then we made sure to clean up after ourselfs. I'm really big on having fun but leave no foot print. Though I didnt go find the rounds stuck in the dirt. I would have loved to have one.

I wanna nice scope. But didnt want to spend the cash on their flagship scope he tried to sell me. I learned a lot reading up on the bmg's so I was up to date before buying it. I didnt read up on the scope's. So I figure I have plenty of time to look for a good one. Last thing I want to do is drop 1-3k on a scope to have it loosen up and go bad. I am now looking into the scope above and might pick one up in the up coming week or so.

welcome to the 50 club lol
the only scopes that will hold up are:
Super Sniper Fixed power
Leoupold
Night Force
Where did you shoot at I was just in glendale area and i was told there is no where to my 50 out there =(

Divernhunter

There is a long list of super snipers that did not hold up on the 50cal board. Any Leupold will work. I had a VarriX-II 3X9X40 on mine until the Nightforce arrived. When I ordered my first one there was a 3-6 month wait due to Mil orders and such.

If you have had no trouble with super snipers then fine but that was not the case for many. The Nightforce will hold up as they are like a Leupold on steroids. The glass quality is great also.

I sure hope you're joking. Crap like this becomes the basis for more anti-50 laws because, stupid people actually believe it.

It has a lot to do with how muzzle brakes work. If you ever see a M2 fire? It does not have the same effect. But, a smaller caliber gun with a muzzle brake will produce the same effect just a bit smaller.

Congrats on your first 50. IMHO, you could have done a lot worse! If you are unfamilar with the history of your model, it used to be produced by Cobb. Anyways, when you decide to get a precision 50, you'll end up with either a custom built rifle on a BAT or Mc Bros action or an ALS upper. In my short time shooting 50s, I've seen a lot of competitive 50 shooters buying an ALS upper after they become better infomer 50 buyers/shooters. Anyways, I suggest that you join the FCSA. It will save you money in the end.

These are the scopes I recommend too. Others have had good luck with many other models but, these same models have also failed on other guns.

My Super Sniper works great and has stayed zeroed for the last three shooting trips I think its the variable power versions that gave people trouble
And shooting a 50 cal from the hip or off hand is no different than shooting a 12 gauge just alot heavier lol

Here's a picture of the dirt flying in Coalinga:

That's a RAW Serbu .50 BMG. The 16x42 Super Sniper scope seems to be holding up after about 50 rounds total.

For the price of the Trijicon you can almost buy two Nightforce scopes, which are better. That Trijicon is better for suited for an M2.
