I'm looking to buy a 9mm in the next month. I've narrowed it down to two specific models, and know I will be buying one.

With all of the fuss over ammunition, is it worthwhile to grab a box of 9mm ammo here and there when I pick-up bricks of 22LR, even though I'm not currently in possession of a 9mm handgun just to stock up? Is this crazy or smart?

A lot of people do this. There was a joking post in one of my threads that addressed this specifically. Just be sure that you are going to actually get the pistol before you start though. Hell, I even have ammo left over from guns I have gotten rid of. Don't know why I still have it, but I do.

That's what I do. I'll be on the hunt for .45 and when I stumble across 9mm or .40 I'll buy a box or two.

yeah nothing wrong with picking up a box here and there. Just dont end up with so much ammo that you cant afford to buy the gun.
personally I would get a few boxes to have for the gun when you get it and then just order ammo online. Sure you gotta get 500-1000 round bulk cans but price is still cheaper than getting a box here and there when you add up the quantity of ammo vs cost.

Heh, I've purchased mags and speed loaders for guns I didn't even own...yet.

i got in on the gander mountain deal because it was 4-5 cents cheaper per round than anything else that had come along in a while (besides steel). still waiting on my sig to shoot it with.

Nothing wrong with that. I don't have a 9mm anymore but I have considered picking up some ammo for one here and there, because I will probably end up with another 9 at some point.

When I purchased my first handgun I had around 650 rds of .45 ACP already stashed. It was scrounged a bit at a time during the Great Ammo Drought. I don't even want to THINK about how much $$$ it cost, but it's all name brand FMJ & JHP.

The one thing that was ironclad when I started my search was the caliber....

Buy the Glock 17 and get the ammo, not the other way around.

:D

We get our 9 next week...already got 1500+ rounds sittinn' around for it.

I'll go with "smart" vs "crazy"; nevermind the naysayers! ;)

Have FUN and be safe with your new pistol!

Only crazy if you can't afford it.
