If I wanted to sell a handgun, can I send it by post to an FFL for the buyer or do we both need to be there in person - for ID reasons etc?
And is it legal to send handguns through the post office, fedex?

If the gun is on the roster, you can ship it through a FFL to a FFL
not one of the better options available due to the various fees

You can also take it to a FFL for a consignment sale

List it here for a FTF PPT at a local FFL

If it is off roster you can only do FTF PPT at the FFL

Shipments can only be made through UPS overnight and at a hub
AFAIK Fed-EX can be used as well

USPS is off limits to non-FFL parties

no, you can't send a handgun via USPS, (only FFLs can do that), but you can send it via UPS/Fedex. YOu can ship the handgun to the FFL to transfer it to the buyer in a non-PPT transfer, but if the handgun is not on the roster, it would need to be done in a PPT transfer, which would require you to hand delver it to the buyer's FFL, due the the set up of the PPT DROS process in the computer.

Thanks for the reply guys, I appreciate it. When you say "roster" what exactly is it that you're referring to?

Try not to get too upset as you learn about the stupidity of CA lawmakers
The safe gun roster link is below
The name has nothing to do with safety
The guns on the list are no more safer then guns that are not

Ah, thanks for that. I looked up the handgun in question (Hi-Point, C9) which IS on the roster. And thanks even more for the acronyms list because I was getting really confused lol...

FTF can also be "failure to feed" but is is usually accompanied by FTE " failure to eject"

I am still learning the acronyms myself

Funny thing happened at the post office. Sent a handgun out of state USPS and the clerk asked if I was a gun shop, I said yes I have an FFL. He never asked to see it and there is nowhere on the form to put my License numbers.
