Well, went to my local Walmart and found what I thought was a reasonably priced case of 100 rounds of .223 55gr Federal cartridges for $39.97. Any thoughts on this ammo?

1. I have heard that Federal ammo is okay, but not the best. I tried to find PMC but of course, not at Walmart.

2. How does a Federal cartridge fire? Relatively clean?

3. Any reliability issues?

Can't say it was perfectly clean but I put a box though mine the other day with zero problems. I went and got a few more, better then umc, didn't have any bad/damaged rounds. Pmc is good, but didn't notice any huge performance change with the federal.

I have fired several 100 rnd boxes of Walmart's Federal value packs w/o a single failure. Not the most accurate but it is reliable

Good stuff. My gun should be sponsored by Walmart ammo.

I bought 200 rounds of it, but I get my gun today so we will see this weekend

For the price, it sucks. But if you need some plinking rounds for an upcoming range trip than they'll do the trick. I hate reloading that brass though, its real soft and I have to adjust my dies to properly full size them.

Its not too bad. I was having alot of primer strikes with no bang before I got a new trigger group. The dpms lpk trigger group seemed like it didn't hit it hard enough. Shot 3 boxes of it since with the new trigger group with 0 problems.

its good for plinking and I have used a few thousand rounds over the years. Not the best ammo but its cheap reliable and IMO a better choice then any russian surplus.

In my opinion, federal is the best ammo out there for the price. Re loadable, cheap and its good quality. I've had zero problems with it ever.

It is good for what it is. Inexpensive plinking ammo. I have used several thousand rounds of it and had no issues.

OK, does anyone know of which Walmarts in the Bay Area sell ammo anymore? Milpitas does not nor does Richmond.

Outta maybe 10 boxes fired so far I have found I think 3 rounds with primers in backwards.
Otherwise good ammo.

$.40 a round at Wal-Mart or our Federal XM193C $188.00 for 500 rounds = $.376 per round. We have one box left or our Federal XM855F3 62gr for $.43 per round, 300 per box.

Has anybody tried out this ammo from AIM Surplus?

$299.50 for 1000 rounds seems pretty good.

Ballistically it's probably pretty close to federal lake city stuff, but the brass is probably not nearly as good. You can get the actual lake city stuff for 380 or so and it will probably get more reloads out of the case.

I've had a bend round where the bullet seats into the brass (it wouldn't feed at all) and a squib round. No big deal. But that's out of a couple thousand rounds of this stuff.

I don't believe that Walmarts in Contra Costa or Alameda Counties sell ammo.

I think that Walmarts in Solano County sell ammo, though.

Makes sense. Why would the county want to make revenue from tax income? Sheesh.

I've never had a problem with WM's .223 ammo.

Yes they do.....and stay the hell outta my stash!;)

But srsly, as of now they do have ammo and an ok selection!

Thousands of rounds of WM Federal fired, zero issues. Good blasting ammo at a reasonable price and none of the restrictions at some ranges with Wolf or other steel core ammo.

If you want match grade accuracy, pay the price for it.

I've shot a couple thousand rounds of the Walmart Federal .223 55gr. it shoots just fine. if you want something more precision go to a different platform.

Nothing wrong with Federal .223 packs from walmart. Mini 14 gobbles it right up. Don't reload, so don't know about reusing the brass.

I've shot a few of those 100rd. value packs, and I highly recommend looking it over and cleaning it thoroughly prior to shooting it.

Most of the rounds had an excess of bullet sealant all over the cases and bullets, some rounds had cases with excessive denting, and some rounds had cases with cracked or split necks.

I have shot a lot of it but its not THAT cheap like everyone keeps saying. It comes to about 45/100 after tax. Thats .45 cents per round. Can be had a lot cheaper online in bulk with either PMC or American Eagle.

True, but not everyone has $300+ at a time for ammo. Sure it makes sense, but costs yuh all at once. Also, when I have a lot of ammo, I shoot a lot of ammo because it has already been paid for ;) The whole buy once, cry once thing $$$. Well, sorta.. and it's more like $0.43 a round and is available at a lot of Walmarts, which are everywhere :D

I have shot plenty of that ammo when the ammo craze was on. It shoots good enough, but is very over priced. At approx $0.44/rd, you can get just as good ammo for around $0.30/rd.

Use it all the time. My wife works for Walmart so we get a 10% discount. Never had a problem with it. Goes bang every time.

Milpitas had ammo last time I was in there a couple weeks ago. Milpitas is in Santa Clara county.
