And be specific down to the model and manufacturer; not just the make!

In other words, no saying, "The 1911."
WHICH 1911?

And please, let's keep the Glock jokes to a minimum. :p

I don't view the 92 as a pretty gun, I view it as a no frills don't take no for an answer sorta gun. You're literally stuck with it as it comes, weird dimensions and funny flowly lines included.

I haven't seen all the guns in the world, but here are three from my own collection that seem very attractive to me - a Browning Medalist .22, a Sig P226 in nickel, and a S&W 66 with 3 inch barrel:

Ooh another good contender, you're right. Not a handgun, but I think the Luger Carbine is one of the most beautiful firearms ever made.

I'm going to mention a couple. Glocks are physically and practically beautiful. A black W.German SIG 226 w/ silver controls is beautiful (or a stock 226 that has a heavy patina). A black 1911 w/ silver controls is beautiful.

Here's another vote for the BHP. Very elegant lines.

But IMO, no autoloader can match the beauty of either a finely finished Colt Python or a S&W 27 in 6" barrel.

And yes, of course the S&W 41 is a fantastic looking and functioning gun. I love the stock grip, but sometimes they put those awful 'Olympic' monstrosities on them...

Another 'Love The Python' vote.
First handgun I ever held was a 4" blued Python that was owned by a neighbor. He was former USAF Security Police during Vietnam Era. He came out of USAF and went to college on GI Bill. He worked Security at DOD facilities to pay the bills. The Python was his carry gun.
That 4" Python cost him $160 new in 1970. He sold it in 1975 to a Gun dealer for $90. He was laid off and needed to make a house payment.
If I only had $90 and was old enough to buy a gun in 1975...

Colt single action 1873

Smith and Wesson model 29 or registered magnums in .357

Some of the great dueling sets of the early 19th century.

That nickle 38 super colt is beautiful.

I would bet if we all lived in Mexico, and this survey was taken, the nickle 38 supers would be the hands down winner. I am not sure why the 38 super is so popular with the Hispanic owners, but you can understand why the high polish nickle is.

Maybe because it is not a military round? Mexican gun owners cannot own a firearms in a caliber that is in use with the military.

I suppose this thread was going to drift onto ornate and special finish pistols, because the original post did not limit it.

Thinking about completely factory original pistols, I love Colt 1911 styles in various models, but my Browning Hi Power ring hammer is about as classic as they get. It is a bit surprising that no one mentioned the Colt Woodsman, as they were a fine looking pistol also.

of the percussion era colt revolvers the 1851 is a better looking gun than the 1860 with it's stepped cylinder and modified grip frame. The 1860 is a more practical gun.

Any military grip High Standard Victor with the 5.5" barrel other than the last, SH series, guns. These guns were polished and blued to perfection before leaving the factory. They gave the S&W Model 41 something to aspire to in terms of performance and looks.

The 6" Colt Python is gorgeous, especially in blue.

Yeah, I just have been seeing them all over this forum. I don't even see the things for sale in stores back home or at gun shows.

My Father shot a lot of long range handgun, so it was almost all revolvers. So you'd figure everybody would have nice strong reliable guns. But there was the one brand/model that just couldn't handle even a light amount of firing. I thought people had given up on the thing universally, not just in new england.

I'd agree with you on the Beretta grip - wish they could skinny it down.. But the DA can be tamed (as with any other DA/SA) with trigger work and trigger spring work.

That being said, the SA Colts/SA Berettas and Pythons are probably the most beautiful handguns I've seen. Okay - I wouldn't argue with a Les Baer either... :)

Now rifles - 1892 Winchester - hands down.. :) But - that's another thread..

I think this is an eye of the beholder question. Of my autos, I really like the CZ75 for overall looks, but also like my 1911s and SigSAUERs.

However for real blued steel beauty; It's a tie between my Colt SAA and SW Schofield.

1981 Colt Python 4 inch e-nickel:

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff199/jazman23/Python006.jpg

The reason you don't see them for sale in shops, etc, is they haven't been made in many years, and people who have them keep them. The BS about it being a fragile gun is exactly that.

I have never even had a sip of the 1911 Kool Aid, but I agree with many here that they are very beautiful hand guns. I don't much care for the looks of Glocks or a the target shooters. The 92 fs has a certain appeal, and I always love the form of the Sig 220/226/228/229. Of all of the revolvers, the Python is awesome!

It's going to sound corny guys, but it's a Colt Huntsman for me.
The bluing is worn, one of the grips is loose.

It was my dad's, it was the gun I learned to shoot with.
And he gave it to me when I left home many years ago.
Not a thing of beauty that will win any prizes, but for me, no other gun will ever hold a candle to it.

I second, third, and fourth this. This was my first firearm purchase on the day of my 21st birthday. I blame the movies Lethal Weapon and Die Hard when I was a lil kid for making me fall for this gun.
I'll 5th the Beretta 92. I've always seen it as one of the most beautiful and iconic pistols, and a variation of the 92 will most likely be my next purchase.

Dead Mans Gun series on tv of late out of Canada..

They seem to think that, the not able to destruct, engraved revolver, is really nice...

But...

Dead Man's Gun, produced by Henry "The Fonz" Winkler, is about a pistol forged in hell which brings sorrow into the lives of those who possess it. Each week, a different guest star would have the gun come into their possession in one way or another; usually they end up dead.

Only if they have evil thoughts does it turn them bad...

I would say it is anti gun :)

LOL--

You guys are missing the point. The Glock 18C is FULL AUTO. Therein lies the beauty.

And because it's full auto, the limp-wristed need not apply. Unless of course they like putting rounds into their own foreheads after a string of automatic fire...

The G19 is just beautiful on its own merits. Sleek, super-compact for its capacity, and just a pleasure to shoot.

And be specific down to the model and manufacturer; not just the make!

In other words, no saying, "The 1911."
WHICH 1911?

And please, let's keep the Glock jokes to a minimum. :p

The most beautiful, to my mind, also happens to be my favorite: a Smith & Wesson, described in the letter of authenticity from the factory as follows:

".38 Military & Police Pre-model 10 (Five Screw Variation), caliber .38 S&W Special, with serial number . . . . Our records show this handgun was shipped on March 14, 1949, and delivered to American Wholesale Hardware Co., Long Beach, CA. The records indicate that this handgun was shipped with a 2 inch barrel, blue finish, and checkered walnut grips." (http://www.fototime.com/4F9763030EBF90D/standard.jpg)

I bought it used, in late 2006, for $250.00.

It was dirty, scratched (very OLD scratch that had worn smooth over the years), with about 70% of the bluing intact.

It came with a soft, worn black basketweave belt holster, with no thumbstrap.

This gun has the sweetest trigger I've ever pulled, and it is a tackdriver.

At my local range, in very low light, from about 25 feet, it shoots one ragged hole until it is empty, if I am doing my part.

When I shoot as fast as I can, I can hit a 4" by 6" target with every round.

It is a heavy little beast, so there is almost no recoil.

I love it.

It is my favorite gun.
