I have a really good friend who worked at a gun store for a long time , I told him recently of the gun I wanted to get, a p226r, duotone with rosewood grips off of an elite

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l315/efrenjimenez/pix1665196453.jpg

but he says the stainless slide is too flashy, says he wont be seen with me at the range lol:D

my other choice is this of course

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l315/efrenjimenez/031wr7.jpg

standard p226r with rosewood grips from an elite, which i really dont mind either

I know calguns is not fond of all stainless 1911s, so i wanted to see what you thought of my initial choice, I just want something unique , ya know? I think either looks great but the stainless slide gives it that rare, classy touch

so waddya say? am I a Mall ninja for wanting the first one ?

Get the one you think looks better, they will both perform the same and they both cost a good deal of money so get yourself what you like best. Plan on spending another $300 at Gray Guns too, the trigger reset on Sig's is pretty long and the DA could use a little love too. Excellent guns though.

Go for it, you're not a loser for wanting it. Those are fantastic pistols.

FYI though, neither of them are all stainless. The frame is alloy, just in case since all stainless would be heavier (if you preferred it that way).

I am not a stainless guy, but I have no problem with stainless weapons. It's purely a matter of looks, and even them I still have a stainless firearms. Buy what YOU want. And btw that's a pretty good looking set of pistols.

There is nothing wrong with a 226 in any color. It's prone to generate the holes where you want them to be, who cares about stainless or not. Form follows function!
Pick whatever you think looks best.

Hey, they both look great to me. I don't think you can get the beavertail version (Elite) here in CA......? Get what floats your boat....! I got the SIG
P220R and put the Rosewood grips on it but ended up taking them off because they were too slippery for me. They sure did look great though.... Regards

they come up on eBay every once-in-a-while. As seen here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Sig-Sauer-P226-P-226-Elite-Rosewood-Grips-Sig-Arms-/320580957420?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aa41d34ec

There was (seriously) another pair for $100 buy-it-now free shipping about 2 hours ago, and it has already been snatched up.

I remember I ran into a pair on ebay for $100 + $5 shipping and snatched them up right away. They're sexy as all hell on my Sig P226 Navy, but they turned out to be a little too large for my hand... so they sit in storage. :(

EDIT: horrible picture, but the only one I ever bothered to take:

Are they both elites? Most of the standard P226 pistols don't have the front slide serrations. Unless they are the SCT, Elite, Combat etc. I like the bottom picture btw, looks clean.

Personally I'm not a fan of two-tones, but that doesn't matter. Get what you want. Who cares what anyone else thinks. It's going to be your pistol, not theirs.

There's nothing worse than second guessing your purchase a few months or a few years down the road....shoulda, coulda, woulda.

Get what you want the first time around and be happy for a long time....

Good luck!

I'm going to +1 the "get what you want". I went with the all stainless p226r myself for a bump-in-the-night gun because the heavier frame soaks up more recoil.

You could probably also get the .22lr conversion slide for the p226 as well. If your friend complains about the stainless slide, pop on the conversion slide (it's black) and you're good to go. Suddenly you're spending pennies per round unlike your friend whose probably spending quarters per round.

Anyway, the only part of the gun you should see is the sights.

Good choice on the P226.

Now the P250 is Reliable...Not!

ATF kicks Sig out of tests. Continues with Glock and M&P.
http://www.gao.gov/decisions/bidpro/4023393.htm
In addition to the agents' rating sheets, a record was kept of any stoppages or malfunctions that occurred during the live fire testing.[3] These records show that ATF's agents recorded 58 stoppages with Sig Sauer's full-size and compact pistols, 13 of which were considered to be gun-induced and 45 shooter-induced.[4] Id., Tab 2, Competitive Range Determination, at 3.[5] In contrast, the agents recorded a total of 16 shooter‑induced stoppages for Smith & Wesson's guns and 7 shooter-induced stoppages for Glock's guns. There were no gun-induced stoppages recorded for the Smith & Wesson or Glock guns. Id., Tab 8, Contracting Officer's Smith & Wesson Evaluation Summary, and Tab 9, Contracting Officer's Glock Evaluation Summary.

Sig Sauer also contends that ATF placed too great an emphasis upon reliability in determining which offers should continue to phase III. In this regard, Sig Sauer argues that reliability was only one of a number of elements to be considered in the live-fire assessment, and notes that reliability was not identified as having any more importance than the other elements.[11] We disagree.

I have the elite p226 SS....love it! It's the gun that I'll never sell. I'll take to the range, but I won't carry it because it will pull my pants down because it's heavy as hell. The wood grips are nice, but it's too thick and it's merely cosmetic. I changed it out for SIG Aluminum grips which cost me $170 :O

Maybe a little. ;)

That said, I agree with all of the others who advised you to get what you like the best since it will be your pistol (and not an inexpensive one at that).

Given the choice, I would almost always choose a plain blue/black finish, though I admire certain pistols in stainless/nickel/chrome, even though they typically look a bit "flashy" to me. I have never liked anything with a two-tone finish. One or the other is fine, but both? Not so much. ;)
