I am building an off-list AR, and never thought twice about tossing a collapsible stock on it, but I shot a friend's AR with one, and realized that the length of pull on it was uncomfortably short- much less than what I'm used to on an M16A2. Does anyone know what the length is on the M16's, and who makes a collapsible stock/tube to get that full length?

Hmmm, both my CavArms M4 stock and Vltor stock are longer than A2 when fully extended?

Welcome to the forums Dan... :)

The length of the A2 stock is 10.7 in. ( A1 stock is 5/8" shorter )and the receiver extension is 10.07 in. In comparison the receiver extension of the CAR stock is 7.20 in. Your only option if you like the looks of the collapsible stock is to get a post-ban CAR/M4 stock (look at the second stock from bottom to top) it's the same size as the A2 stock.

That I know all CAR receiver extensions are the same length, I have never seen one that is longer.
(Darn... 3:44... Time to go to bed...)

From top to bottom:
Crane
Duo stock
Vltor
CAR
M4 (post ban)
A2

What's with the rudder on the second from the top?

Daaaah, Its what Navy Seals use when their dingy takes a hit and they need a paddle and or rudder:D . Those guys think of everything.

It is for pulling the stock back into your shoulder with your support hand when shooting from a bipod, sandbag, or other rest. It is called the VLTOR "Clubfoot" model.

I know, I know... it's not the most attractive stock but I really like it! From all the stocks I have this one gives me the best cheekweld and the most comfortable shooting position.
For the people that shoulder their gun high or train with a vest or body armor this stock is just wonderful.

ETA: This is the link of the company that sells the stock.

When did I take you out shooting?
