View Full Version : '42 Tula ex-pem sniper (pics)
Had this for quite some time and would like to know if it's worth restoring even for repro mount and scope.

Definitely worth a restoration!
42 Tula PEMs are pretty rare.
There are repro mounts out there, but they are not easily found.
No repro PEM scopes yet (only PEs). Real ones can be found on ebay for $500 and up.

Here's a scope:
This one says its a PEM scope, but it looks like PE scope to me. Mount and base look very new (as in repro):
Marcus can comment on these better than I can...

I don't really see the point of "restoring" one of the more rare ex-snipers. No matter how you cut it, it would then be a fake sniper:)

Also when they were made into ex-snipers wasn't it mainly because of accuracy issues?
Thanks Marcus for the info and history, and to Tim thanks for heads-up for scope & mount. I would probably keep it as it is for now and when I have enough funds would definitely restore it as close to original as possible now that I know what I have.

Nice '42 Tula Ex-PEM. I have one too :D Although yours is a little nicer.
To give you an idea how rare it is:
1942 Mosin Nagant Sniper Production-
(44,417 came from Izhevsk)
(8,778 Came from Tula)
And THAT number (8,778) keep in mind was MOSTLY PU snipers. So I'd say approximately a quarter of that number exists today (considering PEM production & wartime losses).
Personally- I'm keeping mine as is. It's too rare to 're-sniper' it. If I wanted a 'restored' PEM sniper I'd pick up a different year & maker.
