Since magnetic/steel ammo not allowed in socal because of the fire hazard what ammo do you guys use at the range?

Which ammo is reliable/semi-accurate yet won't have you eatting cup-o-noodles for a week?

For my AR I buy federal 100 round bulk packs from walmart. Its like 38 bucks +/-. Not a single malfunction in the past 2k rnds ive used. Works awsome, accurate enough for me since I can hit anything I aim at within a couple hundred yards. I think its the cheapest ammo around that is range legal, and still pretty high quality.

I shoot my wolf in the desert due to range restrictions..

Steel core/bi-metal jacketed ammo isn't banned all over CA. Mostly only banned in Socal, as I haven't heard of any Norcal ranges besides the one near the Oakland airport banning the use of the milsurp ammo.

For what gun? I use everything from my own reloads with my own cast bullets, turned solids, pulled surplus, Amax, frangibles, Barnes, etc to non magnetic surplus ammo. It all depends on what caliber and what I want to accomplish.

I have an AR, but I didn't want to make this an ar-centric thread.

For my AR I'm shooting up my Federal XM193 300rd packs I got from LAXRange, they had them for $109 if I remember correctly. Good stuff 2009 date stamps. 45ACP shooting WWB, 9mm mostly Blaser Brass.

I would hope that you can hit within a couple of hundred yards of where you are aiming. Remind me not to go to the range when you are there...

I agree about the wallyworld bulk ammo. The Federal .223 is loaded with a 55 grain bullet. It is clean and has nice, reloadable brass. Those nickel-sized groups I was shooting at 25 yards with a red dot scope were all with that ammunition. If I am going out to the local outdoor range I use wolf or whatever else I happen to find cheap.

assuming you are talking about 223.

PMC where I have to, Silver Bear where I can and my own reloads when I have time to load.

Find a range that allows the cheap stuff.. Thats what I did :)

I shoot mostly Wolf, Tula, Brown Bear, Silver Bear, Purple Bear, Tiger, or whatever I can find for cheap.

If non of those are allowed, I use: Yugo surplus, MFS 2000, PMC, Federal, and Remington.

I shoot Centurion M193, PPU 55gr fmj, PMC .223 FMJBT, and Black hills. These are all obviously .223 which is what I shoot FAR more than anything else.

Then I'm glad that I did not tell you to get a case of 8mm Yugo:D.

55 grain and 75 grain Hornady TAP practice ammo.

Oh wait, thats pretty much the only ammo I shoot. Its cheap, reliable, and cheap.
