After much deliberation and fund-scraping, today I purchased a West German Sig P228! :D

It's coming with hogue grips and looks amazing. I hope to shoot it for many years to come.

236 hours and counting...

Excellent choice! I'm just waiting for it to go back on sale at Turners. I slept on it last time and I kick myself thinking about it.

I picked it up for $549 but it only came with one mag and no case or anything. How do you think I did?

Not that I care too much now :) I got a f***ing Sig!

No, it was a used West Germany model. I thought the P228 line wasn't being continued anymore?

Sig released new P228s. In the past couple years: the P228R and a P228 built on a SAS frame.

I paid something similar for a used 228 last week with night sights, and it came with one magazine and the case and a lock. The owner said he thought it was made in approximately 2005.

Sounds like you did alright! Congrats on the purchase.

Congrats, just picked up a near new p228r myself for 550 but already had a p228 to begin with. I prefer these with original grips, hogues, on these, for me, make them a bit to beefy. Although the p228r came with all it's original components minus mags, had quite a few pre ban mags to begin with. I did have one gripe concerning the p228r, factory night sites, although were off center a bit to the right, both were aligned to one another. When I finally shot it, sites were still slightly off, but nothing a sig site pusher couldn't fix although rear is still off aligned from center to the right when finally zeroed out. Not sure if that is due to 228 slide on a p229 railed frame or if sig's qc took a nap on this one but still happy with the purchase nonetheless...

Congrats- it's a sleeper in that most buyers look for the 229-
The 228 is an amazing shooter for me.

You made one of the best decisions of your life! Anyone know when 228's are going to be worth more since they are no longer made?

Dude, I love my 228. For a 9mm, I think you made the best choice. Solely IMO.

I saw a P228R in the bay area for $949 I think. Top Gun Supply has some 228Rs in stock for less. The 228Rs were added to the roster awhile ago. I've been wanting one for awhile. I ended up getting a P228 SAS though. Apparently the 228 SAS has the same model number as regular 228s. I found mine through a dealer on the Sig Forum.

(dimly lit room, talking in a hush voiced into tape recorder)

Day 5: Vision blurred. Strange, hunger-like pangs setting in. Perhaps I should see a doctor? No! What if they keep me from her?

Photos of similar models not helping. May be intensifying the symptoms. Can I last? Half way through ordeal... God help me.

Southern California Gun in Kearny Mesa has an all German P228 with all matching serial numbers for $599. I'd rate it at 98%. Please buy it before I do. :o

I bought a West German P228 many years ago. During a bout of Guncollectionitus I sold it to fund something else. It was one of many Sigs I owned so no big deal right?

NOT!!! I longed for it daily.

Years later I asked the friend I sold it to how he liked shooting it. "I haven't had a chance to shoot it he says". HUH? after YEARS of owning it?

I quickly struck a deal to buy it back.

She's back home where she belongs.

To me, the P228 is one of the finest made, balanced, and shooting Sigs ever created.

That's where I got mine from. Although, they were on sale for like $450 when I got mine. Looove the gun. Getting rid of the rubber grips and gonna throw some stock ones on. Also, need new sights since there is no more glow left in my current ones. Wish I didn't love SIG so much, sure would make gun collection cheaper for me!

My 1994 West German Sig P228 was the very first firearm that I have ever bought more than 14 years ago. This bad azz pistol will be handed down to many generations to come. Never had one single problem what so ever. One of the best 9mm pistols ever made on this planet! I think many shooters would agree :D!

My Favorite SIG fact is my Favorite 9mm... Nothing works better for me in 9mm. Not HK P7M8, Glock 19, WaltherP99, Browning HP, Kahr, SW 3914, to name a few I own or owned.

This was a great choice... I hope you enjoy it for the rest of your days and then have it passed along after that to someone who will appreciate it.

My Wife purchased a P228 at Turners to replace her S&W 9mm.

We took it out to shoot and we had FTF on everything we loaded it with. It actually would not even feed the FIRST round. I did some web searching and ended up purchasing some new Sig factory 10 round mags. It easily fed snap caps. So I knew we were on the right path. Took it out today to try again and the pistol is a winner. :) Worked perfectly!!!

Today's the day! Leaving work early to go pick it up later. Already have two extra mags and a few hundred rounds of ammo waiting at home :)
