I'm at the show, so if you are in the Fresno area and need a dealer to transfer into CA for you just let me know. Let's keep it all legal.

No sense in making a new thread just for this, so here goes:

Big Reno Gun Show report (08/13/10)

Lots of spectators, more than usual for a Friday morning. GSR parking lot filled with CA plates.

Seemed that new merchants are at the show with better tables and content, although some in their traditional locations have moved elsewhere. SOG Armory back with more assembled rifles and the same amount of lowers. They have a sign reading "We 'ship' to CA" and many more vendors this time are likewise displaying 'CA-LEGAL' signs and 'LEGAL TO OWN IN CA - ASK US HOW', so it's clear the word is getting around.

Notable notes from a thirty minute breeze-through:

I asked a fellow about a Norinco SxS Coach Gun. He wanted $350. I'll go back Sunday and see if he'll take $175. What I really want is a Stoeger with a nice oily blue case hardened finish with internal hammers and ejectors for an SBS project.

The Australian FAL man has made this his second show, so he's a regular now. Back room, third row from the back. Lots of dress-up parts for FAL owners here. Looks like you can build an entire FAL the way you want from what he's got in stock.

Guy on the same aisle from Oregon has a lot of 'genuine' Hk parts for sale, but you might want to look closer to make sure you're not buying Pakistani P.O.F. parts.

One-Eyed Jack of all people actually has a halfway decent price on something for once: He's got 140-round rubber battle packs of recent surplus South African 7.62x51 for $74, although I'm seeing that sgammo.com is showing 200 round rubber packs (http://www.sgammo.com/product/surplus/200rd-battle-pack-german-308-762x51-fmj-military-surplus-ammo) of Bundeswehr surplus for $82 plus shipping.

Mag vendors displaying 'rebuild' AR mag kits containing a polished chrome no-tilt follower and a braided wire spring set with an Okay mag body. Cheap, and worked nicely.

A table in room one had a Robinson Arms 'Stoner' clone for sale with a sign reading "CA LEGAL". Camo up, wrap a green bandanna around your head, and play 'SEAL TEAM SIX, RUNG SAT SPECIAL ZONE 1971' down in the Santa Ana river bottom in SoCal with this gun. Rubber Zodiac boat not included.

MiWall is loaded to the roof with ammo in both Room 1 and 2.

More AR stuff than you can possibly ever need in this show. So many different lower manufacturers I think even Rubbermaid, Playskool, Sony, and IKEA even have AR-compatible lower receivers out now.

Also been looking for a Ruger No. 1 falling block rifle in .375 H&H, but none showed up thus far. :(

I'm hearing a lot more of "Where are you from?" than ever before. If I did not have a C&R or 01/07 I would not even bother to try and buy a gun at this show anymore.

Heading up on the Harley in the morning :D

It was advised at our last club meeting that DOJ is trolling for CA plates at the show. FYI, this was not a "black helicopter" report, as far as I know:TFH:

Pvt. Cowboy:
Any AK Parts Kits ?

Yes, mostly in room 1. Middle row, near the end of the room just before the last table row that faces them in an aisle layout. They looked well worn, and some were covered in syrupy commie cosmoline. AMD-65s, Bulgarians with the grenade launcher ladder sights, and Romanians. I glanced over and saw one that looked like a Krink. Appearance to me looked like "dragged behind agricultural collective tractor". They had barrels and looked like they'd probably clean up OK.

Saw a few kits in room 2. Middle of the room, right side. I think he had some new SIG-552 kits too. Guys elsewhere had bent AK/RPK flats in this room with bonded paper templates glued on the outside, and unbent flats with nicely drilled holes and clover punches. I don't know a thing about these and which is the best to get.

I'm not sure what you mean. The Big Reno Show may as well be called the Welcome to the Free World Californians' Show, since nearly every single plate in the parking lot is a CA plate. The CA DOJ is at EVERY border state gun show. Don't do anything stupid and your chances of having a DOJ encounter are slim. Turning these agents into boogeymen does no one a good service.

Go to the show, spend some money and have a great time. Maybe I'll see you there.

Since the most Evil thing I need is a Mag "Rebuild Kit" for
my Mini-14, I think I'm safe :)

Can I take a Camera in the Show ?

No cameras is posted

I had dinner (birthday) plans tonight in SF, so drove to Reno last night so I could go to the show this morning, and leave around 1.

The show was OK, lots of overpriced S&Ws, although I did score a really nice ~1947 M&P (pre-Model 10) with a 5" barrel, one-line address, numbered Magnas, and otherwise excellent lockup for $350 (with my C&R ffl, natch).

One guy was selling Russian Tula armory SKS's for ~$650 each...another had a pre-29 for $3000....lots of pre-15's (K38's) for ~$699....

Did see a S&W 27-2 with possibly fake "Coke" grips -- might have been diamond Target grips that were altered, but I just couldn't tell.

My favorite 'pusher' Dave Foss had a pre-29 6.5" barrel with *real* Coke grips for $900 (no box), but it just didn't move me.

Miwall's prices...suck? No reloaded .357 Magnum, and their prices for Miwall ammo had more or less zero discount for buying bulk (so I didn't). They may have jumped the shark...they have certainly figured out how to keep the lines down at the tables.

Finally, not that I'm bitter* -- it took me nearly 7 hours to get to SF from Reno. I80 Westbound near Verdi/Cabela's appeared to be single-track for ~20-30 miles; after it took me 20 minutes to move ~800 feet I turned the Jeep around and went back south through Carson City / S. Lake Tahoe. Of course, at this point it put me in rush hour traffic in Sacramento *and* Berkeley/Maze/Bay Bridge.

**** YOU AND THE HORSE YOU RODE IN ON, I-80 WEST! (just had to get that out).

*I am mildly bitter

this show sounds like it was pretty good compared to what i normally see in southern california....

08-14-2010, 10:42 PM
Just got back from the show. I found some great deals and ammo has gotten cheaper. Miwall selling WWB for $207/case of 9mm. I'm not sure what all the concern is about CADOJ. Huge parking lot. I saw more people driving 85 to 90mph down Donners summit that would be more of a reason to be pulled over than the off chance of finding someone purchasing rebuild kits or tracer rounds. Great show though. I'll be back in November.

08-14-2010, 10:56 PM
Went to the show today. Lots of stuff....but no swivels to be had anywhere for my sling. Got a good deal on .22lr cci mini mags, bulk 12g target load and slugs from miwall. I enjoyed the show.

08-14-2010, 10:58 PM
I didn't get to this one, but I think I'll make it to the one in November.

08-15-2010, 12:54 AM
wish i could have made it to this one. maybe i will have some money this November.

good show if even only walking the isles trying to not drool on the guns.

08-15-2010, 12:59 AM
I'll be up there in the morning. PM me if your going. Post gun show beers anyone?

08-15-2010, 7:59 AM
Made a one day trip yesterday, and I thought it was worth it. Only stayed a couple of hours since the family was with me.

The show had better prices on primers, while Scheels and Cabela's had better prices on brass and bullets. Lots of tables with Lugers, older Winchester 70's and Black gun parts.

When we drove into Reno just before 2pm, the traffic heading westbound on I80 was backed up to the Cabela's exit (no accidents), but clear when we left at 7pm.

08-15-2010, 8:34 AM
I thought it was pretty good.
Prices for 7.62X39 and .556 Ammo was Great :)
They had a Ton of Colt AR Mags for dirt Cheap, $5
As I was looking at the Colt Mags, a guy comes up and buys a whole slew of them, I would expect to see alot of Rebuild kits here in the Classified very soon

08-15-2010, 9:05 AM
Just got back from the show last night. Jeez, with all the hype about DOJ and vendors who didn't want to deal with people from ca you would have thought there was a bug planted on every person and LE every 5 feet. Honestly the negative hype was just that. All it does is help ruin the show for vendors and there might be lower attendance from those that actually bit on the bad hype.

Anyways my first mission was to buy ammo. I bought some nice 223 55gr reloads-1000 rounds for $249 (new 223 55gr was $270/1000), new 9mm 124 nato 191/1000, and some other ammo. Had enough boxes to max out the handcart.

Went to cabelas on the way back and the ammo was not cheaper there so I felt I did well.

Bought some AR accessories.

All in all a good show with no feeling of LE looking over your shoulder.

08-15-2010, 7:43 PM
Picked up a few good things, got a couple of great deals on curios. Even though I'm a full blown FFL now I still love going to find good deals on C&R's. ;)

Got Model 1907 Husqvarna made in 1940 and a 1943 war finish Webley 38/200. Both were clean with no import marks. :D

Also got another Swiss K-31 (1934) with a soldier tag under the butt plate.

Everything I got was all matching numbers, very cool. All of them were cleaned up and shot this morning. All of them were perfect!

08-15-2010, 7:59 PM
Daughter summed it up best " WOW. how cool.... bet we can't have it in CA."
She even got into the spirit asking for 'low cap magazines' just to watch the eyes roll.
She did get nice CA legal earplugs and a rifle bag for Appleseed.

08-15-2010, 8:35 PM
I had a great time there, went all three days. On Saturday morning at about 0930 just as I was getting ready to enter the show, I heard a shot. My survival instincts kicked in and I found some cover. After a few seconds, and no more shots, I saw the authorities getting busy and I went on in. The lady on the loudspeaker announced it was all cool and nobody was hurt. I don't know exactly what happened, but obviously somebody screwed up.

I bought some ammo, prices and availability were excellent. I had a great time in the casino as well. Three-card was good to me....;)

08-16-2010, 6:09 AM
I picked up a very nice spade grip setup for my 1919A4 with "butterfly trigger" for $180! WOOHOO!

Good show. picked up some 9mm and .556, decent prices from Miwall. Got a good deal on a sack for the wife and kids BOB. After, we rode the ferris wheel at Scheel's. Whoo hoo!

08-16-2010, 2:39 PM
I got a leather case for my over under for $40! been looking for one for a few years, never found one under $200
