SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO -- Someone opened fire on a group of people Tuesday evening with what police are calling a high-powered rifle. No one was injured.

Police went to the 2400 block of Greendale Drive around 4 p.m. after they received reports of shots fired, said South San Francisco police Officer William Gablin. Witnesses told them a group of about eight men got out of a white Ford Explorer moments before the gunfire began. The shooter then emerged from a doorway and began firing at them.

The men scattered after at least three shots were fired. The shooter also ran and was picked up by a car that drove up to him. Police checked the area and called local hospitals but didn't find anyone who had been struck.

Police later found three 7.26x39 mm shell casings and three bullet holes in a pickup truck. One of the rounds traveled through the windows of a camper top on the truck and may have gone on to strike a house. Gablin said the rounds are considered high-powered and could have come from an assault rifle. It is not clear why the shooting started.

Anyone with information is asked to call South San Francisco police at 650-877-8900.

Gablin said the rounds are considered high-powered and could have come from an assault rifle.

That is already a significant improvement over normal reporting. They identified the caliber and said that it "MAY" have come from an assault rifle.

...with what police are calling a high-powered rifle.

7.62x39? They can call it that, but it's not.

7.62x39? They can call it that, but it's not.

In relation to what they usually see (.22, .25, .32, .380, .38SP, 9mm), 7.62x39 is high powered.

Give the reporter a break and hone your comprehension skills, people:

indeed. No mention of "heat seeking bullets" or a "shoulder thing that goes up"...

Off King Dr b/w Gellert and Callan, not exactly a hotbed of gang activity. More Daly City than South City, really. They probably got into an argument over some food at Goldilocks or a bowling tourney at Classic Bowl :p

I'm surprisingly not completely annoyed by this headline...

Anything above .22 LR is considered "high-powered" by the liberal media and by certain self-serving CA policemen out to protect themselves and not give a hoot about the communities they "serve."

If an "assault rifle" was used thay would have found more than three (3) shell casings. IMO

8-1 seems more like assault repelling in this case

If 762x39 is high powered, 30-06 must be...super powered? WTF?
