A deputy from the Orosi substation is recovering after a set of events put him in the hospital with a gunshot wound.

The Sheriff's Department did not release information until asked, but has confirmed that Francisco Perez, a patrol deputy, was shot. However, how he was shot is still not known.

An Orosi resident called the information in to the Times-Delta.

Sheriff's Lt. Keith Douglass stated that an accidental firearm discharge has prompted an internal investigation, but would not give any additional details.

Perez was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center for a gunshot wound to his leg.

Douglass confirmed the shooting took place inside the substation Sunday night.

Why are so many police officers getting shot by accidental firearm discharge's?
They have firearm safety classes at POST.
When I took the class the Instructor looked around at everybody to make sure they paid attention and understood.

It's amazing how quickly the human mind can revert back to bad habits or old ways without constant, repetitive training. You not only have to train to BUILD good habits but you have to continue training to MAINTAIN good habits. I say that not to excuse anyone from an allowing an AD but to reinforce how important it is to maintain our technique and mindset.
