I got a quick question. I'm going to a bachelor party in Vegas next month and my friends want to go to "The gun store". I'm on court probation here in Kali and the terms says I can't posses any firearms at my residence and work. Can I legally go with my buddies in Vegas and rent guns with them? Thanks

Sounds like a question for your probation officer.

If it were me, I wouldn't take the chance.

What he said, talk to your PO.

Court probation is informal not formal where u get a PO. It means abide by the terms and stay out of trouble.

The wording on your court probation is critical to this answer. If the judge said you can't possess firearms, it applies everywhere, even out of state, or you will be in violation of your probation. If he said you can't own firearms during your probation period, you might be OK.

Remember, probation is being given a second shance after making a mistake that happened to be a violation of the law. A violation of that probation, could land you in jail for the full sentence, and more long term consequences.

You have to ask yourself, "Is it worth it?" My $0.02 says don't do it.

Your probation terms say you can't posess firearms.

Sure, you can go to Vegas and rent (posess) firearms. You'll probably get away with it, but why risk it? All it takes is a picture of you holding a gun. Be smart, don't do it.

If it makes a difference in your decision, at the gun store they do take your ID during the rental. I believe it's as a form of deposit, rather than to run a search on you, but you do need to provide the ID

I wouldn't do it. Personally I don't believe that California state laws should apply or be enforceable beyond state lines but it doesn't matter what I believe.

If California finds out, you'll be in trouble. Not worth it.

What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas....

Seriously, you might want to make sure crossing state line isn't a violation as well.

That's what I was thinking.

I definately would not rent a gun under your circumstance.
