I sold a reciever , can I just ship to the FFL's location or do I need a # or something from them first?

You need to know the FFL's license is current. Get their number, check it here, https://www.atfonline.gov/fflezcheck/ and ship only to the address on their license.

AFAIK, if you know that the recipient is an FFL, you can just ship it to them. You don't need an FFL# first. For instance, I could just ship a 1911 back to Springfield Armory, since I know that they are an FFL. But if Joe Blow is buying that 1911 and wants me to ship it to his FFL for the transfer, I'm gonna want something that confirms that I am shipping it to an FFL. So, in that case, just get the FFL# and run it though ATF's EZ-check to make sure it is a valid FFL, and then just ship it to either the mailing or premisis address (even though it is legal for the FFL to receive it at other unlisted addresses).

Ups is probably easiest, and has tracking.
