Is it legal for me to remove my stock from my pistol grip rifel?

The rifle is 38” with the stock on and 28” with out the stock.

I am only 20 years old - so I cannot own a pistol, does this make the rifle a pistol?

Thanks,
Tony

A firearm that is 28 inches long is still a rifle as long as the barrel is at least 16 inches long. We would need to know more about the gun to know if your configuration would violate any other laws though. For instance, some types of rifles become illegal to own in California if they are shorter than 30 inches.

Is it a centerfire rifle?
Is it a semi-auto?

Are you just talking about removing the whole stock for maintainence or are you talking about removing the butt portion of the stock to make a shorter, functional rifle?

It is an Armscor AK-47/22 with an 18 1/4" barrel I was thinking about making it a shorter rifle, since it is a .22lr it does not have much kick.

Its an "AK-22", not an AK-47/22 converted into .22LR like some rifles out there. It only cosmetically resembles an AK. Its not an AK receiver. You should sell it and get a 10/22.

Yes, you could remove the stock. If it was a semi-auto centerfire rifle then by removing the stock (thereby making the whole rifle less than 30 inches) you would have an illegal "assault weapon." However, since it's a rimfire you'll be fine.

Yes, I know this - but on the side of the weapon it says AK-47/22. So I refer to it as that.

For rimfire just keep it at least 26 inches long, with the barrel at least 16 inches long.
