View Full Version : Piru Bass

I went up to Lake Piru this morning expecting to help Arnold with the budget deficit against my will. I just think it's really stupid that I have to pay $10 to fish at our public lakes. I'm not going to use the picnic area or boat dock and it's been free to fish there most of my life. Along the road to the entry, of course, I looked for a place to park; and a path down to the lake WITHOUT having to pay. Once before when I had gone "the gate keeper" told me that's legal.

So, I got about a mile down the entrance road past the sign for Thompson's Pistol Range and up to the dam. It's to steep there, and no paths anyway. About a mile farther on I saw one of those triangle entrance gates the DWP uses. I didn't see a private property sign, HUH, so, I parked and walked around it down the hill to a really nice little cove. I set up shop for a while, but no go. Not being a person who give up easily I drove on looking for a better, easier spot to get to the lake.

Not to much farther from there I saw what looks like a DWP pumping station. A fellow was just leaving and I asked if I could go through there to get to the lake. He told me to back my car up and park where it's legal. Then, walk down the road until I saw a stake in the ground with a piece of blue tape on it; and I would find a path.

Sure enough there was a path through the hedges and down, down, really down to the lake. Once there, the path around the lake itself made it easy to find a spot. It was really windy and all the boats made a constant wake coming to shore, so I figured I'd be bottom fishing and take my chances loosing some tackle. I prefer bobbers for that reason.

I set up my beach chair, started casting and actually realized I really needed my binocs. I could be wrong, but by golly I could swear the latest woman's fashion this summer was monokinis. Anyway the show certainly helped pass the time. A cast here and there another worm and some time goes by and I got a strike. Rather a welcome interruption. I caught this, roughly 1 1/2 lb. bass on the line. I forgot my camera so I took this at home. I should have gone home and called it a day, but it was early. So, I killed some more time; made a few more casts, and unfortunately my line finally got stuck. I wasn't figuring on taking home pieces of my rod, but, yeah...I broke it. Isn't life wonderful? Somehow I just didn't care right then! I had dinner. LOL

If you wanna go free at Piru...look for the pump station.

Just an FYI. Camping there with a tent is a waste of time and painful on all the rocks and it cost way to much.
