Use what they give you bro, who knows, you might get an ACOG issued and if u get an aimpoint issued its a great optic in its own right. I was never issued an ACOG or an Aimpoint when I was deployed, all I was issued was iron sights on my good old m16a4. I did "tactically aquire" both an ACOG and an Aimpoint and also a M249 para saw from an army unit in Kuwait before crossing over into Iraq in 2004...I was the only marine in 1/5 with a para SAW during that deployment, lol. So moral of the story is, if you dont bring it with you and you dont get it issued, you just might aquire it from a POG or REMF..

Yes, it's not 2004 anymore - use what they issue you. RFIs have been excellent over the last six years and most trigger pullers going to A'stan are getting magnified optics to supplement their issued Aimpoints. Even in conventional line units the good stuff is getting issued. Don't sweat it.

The issued Aimpoint's are pretty decent BRAH why not get a x3 magnification it can flip out of the way for CQB or flip in for long range shots.

At the very least wait until you get to your MOB site, you should find out then what you'll be getting. Also never hurts to make friends with the supply Sgt, and or unit armorer if they arn't the same person. If all else fails and you get stuck in a crappy unit like I was when deployed and not have anything issued to you better than the aimpoint then you'll have plenty of time to order something better then.

Or, depending on what your timeline is looking like, you can make a call to USO and see about getting a SN-4, those are some pretty sweet little scopes, run you about the same as an ACOG too.

thanks, info is always appreciated

Its not the old days anymore you shouldn't have a problem getting one issued to you. Also all it takes is your acog getting recorded in one inventory and your in a whole world of ****

I'm sure glad the answer to the OP is no.

After all we're already spending I'd be really pissed if he needed to be his own armorer too...

I know its beating a dead horse, but use what they give you. There should be no reason that you wouldn't get some sort of optics issued. In 2006, ACOGs were few and far between in my company, by 2009 everyone had an ACOG, and few had Eotech's. Besides, I wouldn't trust putting an optic I paid for in an armory anyway.

There's also the issue of what your unit will allow you to put on your rifle (applies to pre-deployment as well as when you are overseas). For it to do you the most good, you will have to take it to the range and practice with it - not just throw it on your rifle when you head out on patrol.

Millet DMS-1, make sure they let you zero it. Felt bad for the 10th mountain guys and 101st guys i was attached to out there, us AF guys had m4's with all sorts of gear queer stuff, the 10th guys had plain jain M4's and the Screaming Eagles guys had A2's with carry handle mounts for their Aimpoint Comp2's.

Bushnell advertises the "zoom dot tactical" as "the scope being used in Afghanistan", although I can't verify the accuracy.

I was turned down by the military (for medical) due to lack of binocular fusion (no depth perception) so I have never had the opportunity to serve.

"Bushnell Zoom Dot 730001 Riflescope has a rugged, recoil-tested fully waterproof design currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. "
