View Full Version : Legal transport question

My question relates to CPC 12026.1 (http://law.onecle.com/california/penal/12026.1.html) and 12026.2 (http://law.onecle.com/california/penal/12026.2.html).

I saw a brief thread with one reply to a question similar to mine, but I am hoping for further insight into the law. The reason I ask is I have the following situation coming up:

- A recently purchased handgun will become available for pick up from the dealer at a date in the near future.

- I will likely be working fairly late on that day.

- Traffic is always lightest mid day, so I would like to pick up the pistol around lunch time and go back to work.

- I may see about bringing the pistol in a locked container into work for the day, but my suspicion is that will not be allowed.

I have a small but heavy duty pistol box. I can put that in the trunk and use that at the dealer to lock up the pistol. The pistol will also come in a container that I can lock. My concern is keeping the weapon in my trunk for the remainder of the day until I go home. For one, it may not be a wise move, even though I work in quite a safe area. Second, I suspect it may be illegal. I'm not sure after reading the law (I think 12026.1 applies to motor vehicles and 12026.2 applies to carrying on your person to and from certain places). Can anyone offer some advice?

In the end it will probably be best for me to just wait an extra day and pick it up after work the next day. Unless they'll let me keep it inside for the day in the pistol box at work, I may just want to hold off.

Perfectly legal to keep your new gun in a locked case of some kind in your trunk.

If you park on company property, that may be a violation of company policy, but it's legal.
