Have a lap top that the screen has nothing but colored lines going across it. Any known fixes? also, how can I get all the pics I saved on it? As you can tell, not a tech person:o This is an Apple that I have.

This is the titanium apple. Is it worth fixing (2005)

Sounds like either the video card or inverter is going out, most likely cheaper to just replace it.

Beetle Guy - If you move the monitor (open/close position) and the picture returns/fails then it could be the ribbon cable itself.

My suggestion is to get some quotes regarding worst case scenario and the cost of a replacement laptop.

Did you trade that .22 for this thing?

I did:o I'm not a computer guy and left it up to the other guy to be honest with me.

I tried that and it didn't do anything to the screen.

I traded because my family doesn't have the extra money to go out and buy a new computer. I'm in the process of getting on with the sheriff's department but the wait has been a lot longer to to the economy.
I'm lucky enough to have my old Dell right now though.

Ok, then that narrows it down to the inverter or video card.

My guess - Inverter.

If you plug the laptop into a monitor does it do the same thing or is it ok?

So you didn't even test the laptop?

It's the inverter, those are usually pretty easy to swap out. You can get a new one on eBay for around $20. Instructions on replacing it should be online, just do a Google search for that model laptops service manual or a site where someone goes through the steps. The inverter should be under the plastic bezel that goes around the outside edge of the display.

No I didn't. He was showing me all the features that I didn't think to try it out.
