C&R question

I just got my C&R application in the mail today. There is a 50% chance I may be moving in the next 3 months out of state. Is it worth it to fill out the paperwork and send it any anyways, or should I just wait to see if I move? What other paperwork is involved when you move. Thanks.

I think you just have a change of address form. You might as well send it in.

My experience is it will take longer than 3 months, so I would wait.

Yeah, you just have to send in a completed Form 5300.38, Application for an Amended Federal Firearms License...

You send one copy to ATF and one to the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of your new location.

You are supposed to send it in at least 30 days prior to your move, so you might just want to wait and apply for the license from your new location. I guess it depends on if you have a chance of moving in three months or within three months. And if that 50% chance will change percentage as time goes on.

I agree with waiting until you move. No reason to do it twice if you don't have to, even if the paperwork to amend is free. With the occasional long wait time to get a response it would be better to wait than have the people at your old address using your FFL to buy stuff or selling it to the highest bidder because it showed up in their mailbox after you left. FFL documents and printed matter from the ATF does NOT get forwarded. Hope this helps.

I'll throw out a con argument here.
My buddy and I each got our C&R's in like two weeks from F troop two years ago.
Recent reorts seem to say it taking longer, though.
