I wouldn't pay more than a couple hundred for either... computer technology advances so fast that if it isn't obsolete in a few months, it certaining isn't worth the equivalent to the performance of a new computer that can be purchased for 50% of the prices you indicate.

dell adamo

check this out.
http://www.dell.com/content/topics/topic.aspx/global/products/adamo/topics/en/us/adamo-onyx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19

unfortunately, the price has significantly dropped even for a new one.

the i5 and i7 can now be had for $600-800.

Core 2 Duo laptops go for $200-$400 on eBay, the more expensive ones being business class machines.

Computers don't keep their value. New graphics cards and CPUs and technology coming out every so months just keeps lowering the value.

Sam, Let me summarize for you.

Dell Studio 1737

Win Vista Home Premium x64
2.67 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
8GB Ram
Dual 320GB SATA Harddrives
DVDRW - Blueray Disc
Memory slot (SD/MMC/XD)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
Bluetooth
Gigabit Ethernet
802.11 a/g/n Wireless adapter
Firewire
Webcam
Biometric finger print reader

NEW from Dell: Approximately $1400 +/-

Used value in excellent condition $500-800 depending on additional software and buyer. (PS, if you put Win7 in the machine along with Office 07 or Office 10, you'll attract more buyers)

As far as the Dell Adamo, which one did you buy? The description you put up is cryptic at best... However, these are NEW to the market and VERY VERY well made. You may be able to get CLOSE to your purchase price, unless you paid too much for it.

Depending on model, the Adamo sells between 800-2000

The new Adamo, with similar specs, goes for around 1200.

I would expect maybe 800, at best?

I probably did pay too much for it. It seems they no longer sell the variety of Adamo I purchased in February.

Adamo:
1.86 GHZ
Windows 7
4 MB
250HD (I think, I'll have to check when I get home tonite).

You aren't kidding. That and it seems that you may have overpaid for those systems.

I purchased a system from ibuypower a year and a half ago for $1100 that had an i7 920 processor, 6 gb of 1600 DDR3, a 1 TB HDD and an EVGA GTX 285 with 2gb of memory. It came with Win Vista professional.

That was slightly less than the cost of the individual parts (wholesale) at the time.

I'd say about $500 - $600 tops with the monitor.

$600 is probably the most you'll get for a used laptop, especially one that has a Core 2 Duo, I'd wager a little less since this model has a small screen size. You might be able to squeeze a little more out of it if it's still got another year under warranty though, that's worth checking. You have to remember that new Core i7 laptops go for around $800 - $1200.

It is a 250gb drive, I guarantee it is not a SSD. A SSD of that size goes for around $700 before tax, back in February they were probably closer to $1500 - $2000, if they even had that size then.

Core2Duo's are still on the market today. If the system was a CoreDuo I would agree, but the Adamo is faily new to the market.

Again to the OP, I would check prices on eBay and go from there. Market conditions chance all the time and if you wait even a couple of weeks you could lose more value.

OUCH !!!!
I can build a better system for less than $500 now. The most valuable in your desktop is the ram 2x4gb is kindda pricy now.

The laptop can be had for about $800 new if you look around..
