Hi All,

I am looking at purchasing a gun from an out-of-state private seller and we're both trying to figure out whether or not the seller needs to have an FFL ship the gun to an FFL here in the SF Bay Area. The seller holds a FFL03 (curio?) license so not sure if any of that matters.

Would the cost to do the transfer be similair to a face-to-face PPT (fixed transfer fees + DROS) or would this transfer be treated the same as if the purchase was made from an out-of-state retailer (open fees +DROS) ?

Any advice / help is MUCH appreciated. THANKS in advance!!

However, the receiving FFL may have a personal policy to only accept shipments from other FFLs. In this case, the seller's 03FFL may be good enough, even if it wasn't a C&R firearm.

The FFL can charge what ever fees he wishes. It is not a PPT, so the PPT maximum fee does not apply.
