We have a steel shoot on Thursday nights at the San Diego Police Range. We will be starting up again in May. If anyone in the area is interested it's just a bunch of guys that get together and have fun. It's relaxed and is run by a retire LEO the just loves to shoot and makes the course designs challenging.

This is more fun than any IDPA match I have ever been to.

Most that show up are experianced shooters. We make it very challanging and requires accuracy. I even put up a 1" target for 10 yards one day.
We shoot out to 25 yards on occasion. Basic IPSC safety rules unless there is 4 or less shooters. Eye and ear protection is required. Any pistol or revolver is good. Definately need a holster and lot's of mags unless you never miss.
Bring lots of ammo, at least 150 rounds and remember front site.
If you have shot an IPSC or IDPA match your good to go. Shooting small plates and bowling pins can get frustrating and humbling.
We also do fun stuff and there are no rules against laughing at each other. We aren't geared to beginning shooters but anyone is welcome to come and play. The 1st Sunday of each month there is a fun pistol shoot at Lemon Grove Rod and Gun that is geared for beginners.

What time do the matches start and will you be running them in the summer?
When I lived in San Diego I used to shoot at the police range from time to time.

It runs through the summer but is put on hold in the winter. To many people complained about shooting in the dark with only light on the targets. We start showing up around 6:00 and get started between 6:30 and 7:00 depending on how quickly we can setup the targets. Shooting fee for the range is $10. If the match director had his way it wouldn't cost anything.
Fun at the end we sometimes do a man on man shootoff. Usually something like 4 bowling pins then a manditory reload and knock down a popper. This is when it gets real fun.
Don't come to serious, we shoot for fun and the challange. I post score on the internet but I don't think anyone really pays much attention to them.
