If thats your tax return, I hate to burst your bubble but that was your money to begin with. The state just took it from you because you are not responsible enough to figure out and pay your own taxes at the end of the year.

Heck...I'm no expert..We need to ask whats his name up above.

I am not even responsible enough to know!!! :)

Two basic elements are to pay a heck of alot, and have a couple of write offs to swing some back your way!

No! This had nothing to do with Bush and his Corp. tax give away! :)

Want a REAL big tax check back? Claim ZERO deductions on both State and Fed and HAVE ADDTIONAL MONEY TAKEN OUT from each pay check. DONT work overtime (higher tax rate than average salery IF the accounting departments are doing thier job....).

When tax time comes claim every deduction you're entitled to....... VERY little chance of owing taxes and pretty much 100% on the "addtional" you had being pulled out is returned. "Poor mans" saving account:D And you get the added benefit of complaining THAT MUCH MORE all year long about the goobermint's overbearing saddle of indebtedness they've put you under.

IF you're bad at saving money yourself- this is but one option.

NO, I am NOT a tax consultant, nor a legal consultant; but I DID stay at a Holiday Inn express last night:p

Now shut up and beer me:D LOL!!!!!!!!!!

Whats sad is that when they first started taxing income it was pay at the end of the year. But I guess too many people couldnt do that so they switched to automatically taking it out as you get paid. Isnt it great that the government decides all this for us, we should all feel fortunate

And no, I got a refund this year. Not as big as yours though.

I try not to pay that much in taxes off the bat by putting into IRA's and such. Why give it to the government as a interest free loan when I can stick it in an account that makes me money.

DOOD, you REALLY need to adjust your deductions/exemptions!!!!!!

That is 13K that you just loaned to the government INTEREST-FREE!!!

Can I get a 13K loan from you at 0% APR??? :)

Werd, I had to pay the state $4 at the end of the year, I pretty much nailed it. I'd much rather be making interest on my money throughout the year.

the bigger question, is how the hell does one get $13K+ from STATE alone? that's some serious over-payment or crazy earnings.

I don't have deductions I am self employed, and when you sell property in Kalifornia they take 3% of what you earn with you having NO choice to the matter.

So for some of the EXPERTS! Let me know how I can stop it and I will BUT there is no choice to the matter.

But it is kinda of nice getting a check, and money back that you have learned to do without...... then bang!!!! It shows up in the mail box. :)

1031 property exchange.

1031 property exchange.

Yes, that is the option IF you don't need the money.
I have done many 1031's.

But in my case...this year I had enough write offs that I had all my taxes covered...So selling and getting all my taxes returned was better than a 1031 because I sold a house and received cash and got all my quarterly taxes returned :) Doesn't get better than that! :)

I was only able to do this once before.
