View Full Version : Strangest place you have done a C&R long gun/ammo/accesory deal?

I have done and been with others that have arranged meets to sell ammo or C&R long guns over 50 years old or accesories on calguns and elsewhere. Some of the more interesting and funny places were in the parking lot of PF Changs or the Walmart parking lot at 11pm on a rainy night in LB to sell some AR parts.

I have had people who had no idea who I was except for a few random posts and pm's invite me in to their apartment with an open gun safe in background to do an ammo deal.

I sold ammo to someone that had me go to their great grandmothers house and had the sister meet me to give me the cash!

I generally prefer to do the actual C&R long gun deals at a gun related site like the parking lot of a Turners though this has not always been the case.

On the side of the road just off a freeway off ramp.

I sold a M44 at the Barstow Zombie shoot. So, that was in the middle of the desert.

I've had a 07FFL do a PPT in my garage! He had to drive 3 miles up a dirt road to get here!

I bought shotgun ammo at a Kragen's a few years back.

In CA? I've heard some do sell shotgun shells but haven't seen it yet. The hardware store in Calipatria sells ammunition and has pics of customers with their hunting success.

I tried to arrange a ammo deal with someone to meet me in slab city (you may have seen it in Into The Wild) next to Salvation Mountain but ammo was sold before we could meet up.

If you know the area (by Niland in Imperial county) it would top the list of strange places to do a gun related deal.

I bought brass at a gunshow...in the parking lot...from a Calgunner...in Reno.
I thought it was ironic that we both drove out of state to a gunshow to meet, and I got a better deal before I walked through the doors than anything for sale inside.

I always wonder who's watching and WHAT they must be thinking.

I've bought a complete AR upper in a wendys parking lot with my 4 kids in the car. One day I picked up an A2 buttstock in oakland in front of a Kragen, then met up in a gas station parking lot to buy some 9mm ammo afterwards in Sacramento. Also, bought some 9mm ammo in front of a carls jr.

I don't know why, but it always feels like I'm doing something illegal. lol

My first C&R was in the parking lot of Willy burger in sacramento at noon on a friday. There was a line out the door, lots of people staring. Wasn't the best idea.... I bought another when I worked at a movie theatre. Guy made me a good deal so I gave him free tickets. I've also bought ammo/ar parts of an on-duty leo in a costco parking lot.

The Kragen on Abel (store used to be Grand Auto), had a big stack of 12 gauge shotgun shells at the parts counter. Surprised me, too. Guess they were trying to be a one-stop shop for the hunters hitting the road.

Talking about ammo, I bought a couple hundred rounds of 50BMG ammo from a Calgunner in the Valet area of Circus Circus (LV) during SHOT 2010.

I also remember buying a rifle in the parking lot of a casino in Sun Valley (NV).

I used to buy and sell non C&R and C&R firearms at garage sales in Ca.

I remember my 12 year old brother walking 2 blocks home with a .22lr rifle on his shoulder after paying $15 for it at a garage sale in San Bruno.

I sold a Ruger Single Six at a gas station in SLO.

Of course, these were all legal transactions made prior to 1991.

Ive purchased an 8lb jug of powder at an electronics company's entrance, purchased a c&r shotgun in a McDonalds parking lot in the daytime, a k98 C&R at night in a resturant parking lot. all from people I have never met.

My first brass purchase, my nephew and I went to an apartment/duplex, and after we bought the brass, the fellow Calgunner, showed us rubber bullets and a primer only load into cardboard in his living room, for fun and insisted we tried it too. I was awesome!

I answered a craigslist ad for a Mississippi Derringer (the address was just down the street)
I called the phone number and after a bit of research trying to find out what a Mississippi Derringer actually looked like.....I met the guy at his house.
While there we got to talking about custom wood grips....While the guys wife was writing out a sold receipt, he returns from the other room and hands me a loaded Lama 45 .

First thought from me was this is a bit heavy :D
I dumped the clip emptied the round out of the chamber, checked out his custom grip handy work and handed the Lama back to him.....His wife was a little
I played it off like I do that everyday with loaded hand guns ;)

I'm 1000% sure he got an ear full after I left :D

All of the usual places
Gas station parking lot for a nice 10-10 reloading scale
Walmart parking lot for 1/2 a 5 gallon bucket of brass
Walmart parking lot for a 30-40 Krag
Greasy spoon diner for a Ruger Mk I
Turner's parking lots for a multitude of gun stuff
Numerous C&R long guns in the mail, got to love that 03 FFL
Ammo Bros parking lot a few times.

There are, no doubt, a few I am missing but you get the idea.

Parking lot of the local Sheriff's station.

I've bought/sold 3 or 4 handguns in the parking lot of a substation. Here in Clark County we have that BS 'blue card' to deal with. It just makes sense to meet at a metro substation so the blue butt wipe can be taken care of in the same trip.

Otherwise, in cash and carry states, pretty much anywhere people can meet is used.

It's so ironic that the majority of Nevada citizens have to deal with MANDATORY handgun registration. At least, here in Ca, we can still legally possess our UNregistered handguns. :p

A couple of months ago, a fellow member and I were going to trade some ammo. Our schedules just wouldn't line up to make the trade in person, so he leaves the ammo with a friend at his shop that wasn't too far from my house. I then go to the shop pick up the ammo and leave the ammo for him. His friend was a good middle man.

No place really strange, just the typical...

various parking lots; McD's, starbucks, gas stations, Lowe's, church, Fry's, Train museum, gun stores, shabu shabu, etc
Numerous residences, gun ranges.

I think what's more strange is the places I've shipped to. This is CALguns, yet I've shipped to Texas, Ohio, Washington, Oregon, West Virginia, Rhode Island, Maryland...

Also, How far have people driven for a transaction? I took a detour on my way back from vegas to pick up a pelican case in Tustin. I live about 400 miles away
