Why are 1911's so hard to find? In particular, a Kimber Custom TLE II. Am I not in the loop of something?

Everything got hard to find the day after Obama got elected. Some companies have caught up, some haven't. There may be more to it but I think that pretty much covers it.

God help you if you want a new blued Colt 1991. I was looking for one for a year. Never found it.

There's a TLEII for sale in the private classifieds, if i'm not mistaken.

I believe they are just being bought up as fast as Kimber can make them. My local gun shop has had two of the TLE II's over the past 6 months. Niether one lasted more than a few days in the case.

Never found it.Well, it's kind of short notice (like 15 minutes)--and who knows if you're even located in the general area--but at 9:00am today the Turner's Rancho Cucamonga store is having their grand opening, and Colt 1991's are on sale for $699.98. Only 25 available, and only at the RC location.

Wow, that's an incredible deal compared to San Diego prices. I'd jump on it if I were able to get over there.

Oh, now I'm beginning to understand why... so many divorced folks. :)

I've discovered the best way is to establish monthly personal spending limits w/ your SO, then you'll almost never be in the above situation.

The gun you seek isn't rare or particularly good. So, if you can't find that gun, there are many others just as good or better at similar price. I'm sure you'll like another, these mid-range 1911s are pretty much all the same.

So what do you recommend?

I'd recommend you call a few stores and ask what 1911s they have in the $700-$800 price range and go see them. Really, they will be very similar and will have similar resale value as well. Personally, I'd buy a S&W 1911 in that price range.

That's funny stuff right there. Must be one of those I've read a lot of Kimber bash threads but never owned one guys. For the price I have found MY KIMBER to be exceptional. If you actually owned one my apologies. You can't buy a better 1911 from my exp. for less than a thousand bucks out the door. There is a reason they sell like hotcakes. I would look at a Dan Wesson however, with the recent price increase it would probably cost you more.

They're scarce, because all the Glock owners who's guns have blown up have all bought real guns :D

but a s&w isnt a true 1911, after all. external extractor, you know... :D
plus, they just look... strange, somehow... like if a s&w 410 mated with a colt.

both my kimbers are great handguns, and are 100% reliable. once my cbob comes home, though; all bets are off.

I second the Kimber. My very first gun was a Colt series 70. Very loose out of the box. I had a Bar Sto barrel, trigger job etc. Now it shoots probably as good as a Kimber out of the box

The Kimber is tight. I was a little apprehensive about the Swartz safety system, but it does not affect the trigger pull. Nice and crisp

That being said, I saw a SW 1911 at the gun store the other day and it has been calling me every night

I'm still in search for my first 1911. I just don't like the look of the external extractor on the S&W 1911's the same with the Sig 1911. I like Kimbers and I feel the quality of a Kimber is better then the Colt, but I've always wanted a Colt 1911. I'm torn between a Kimber, a Colt or a Springfield Armory.

I mentioned it. It's one of three brands that's on my radar. Any other notable brands? I wouldn't mind getting a standard Springfield Mil-Spec in Stainless.

Fowlers in Orange has many brand new Kimbers, Springfields, and Colts in stock. They even had a couple dan wessons, a les baer, and a couple ed browns.

I don't mean to bash Kimbers in my post and certainly don't want you to be upset.
Perhaps your Kimber custom II is exceptional and beats Les bears for half the price , but the many custom IIs I experienced is not all that great. They are just like many of the mid-priced 1911s.

I guess I shouldn't have used "particularly good" since everything is relative. But I was thinking of full custom 1911 somehow when "rare"/"hard to find" went into my mind.

I was in San Diego Guns on COnvoy about 2 hours ago, and they had a Dan Wesson PM-7 for around $1100. I would choose that over the TLE II or the Colt.

I just bought TLE II/RL here on Calguns 15 days ago. Only had it in my hands 5 days. They are around just have to be patient.

Look in the Firearms for sale thread every day, some firearms go really fast, so have your money in hand and don't hesitate to reply with an offer

OK. Here's another question, if you were in the market to afford a Noveske Recce lo-pro upper or an equally valued 1911, which buy would be better to get first? I love shooting both pistols and rifles. I have been waiting for the Noveske to be back in stock and they finally are, BUT now 1911 are not too plenty now. So which one first?

Thanks.

(Formerly know as Metco) Cordelia Gun Exchange in Fairfield, CA has a bunch of rostered and non-rostered 1911s in Kimber and Springfield flavor of models. Lots of 45 ACPs.

Honest question here but are the TLE II's supposed to be real reliable out the box? I've got two friends with them and they both stay in the safe due to fte's and ftf's. Bad luck? I believe one was sent back but I saw it ftf afterwards. Not much experience with 1911's here other than shooting a couple k rounds with those 2 pistols.

After reading all the posts and other 1911 related threads, I'm wondering if the Kimbers of late are that great too. However, Kimber or not, trying to find a variety of 1911's is not easy. At least for me, I've tried both walk-in and online.
