Hey guys,

Recently snagged a .45 USP compact. Sweet gun!

Mags are darn expensive, and they only hold 8 rnds.

So I found a USP .45 Compact mag that will take 10 rounds, and has a floorplate extension with grip.Anyone seen these? Pics of the gun with this magazine in it? Curious what it would look like.

If anyone knows where I can snag these for less that $70, that'd also be awesome.

Looks goofy to me, but then again I could careless how it looks...it is how it functions that matters to me. I never liked how low capacity .45 ACP magazines are, especially since I short load my magazines by two rounds.

It is not a great idea to top off your magazines. During tactical, emergency and speed reloads you will end up not seating the magazine all the way and run into malfunction after malfunction. It is a good idea to short load your magazines by two rounds. In normal range shooting this won't come up very often. It is one of those things you only experience when under stress. You see it a lot in high intensity training, competition, and scariest of all an actual gun battle. The tension on your springs combined which is increased by the full compliment of ammo provides too much pressure for the magazine to seat properly.

The scenerio goes something like this. You are fighting off the badguys. They are smart and taking advantage of cover, just like you. Your gun runs dry. You quickly retrieve a fresh magazine, and drop your depleated magazine at the same time. You slap your fully topped off magazine into your handgun with all the force you can muster. You slam the slide forward. You point in. Hard focus on the front sight. Press the trigger...and you hear the loadest sound your will ever hear in a gun battle..."click". You wrack the slide and squeeze again and again you hear a "click". You start to wrack the slide again only this time the bad guy puts a round into your brain pan and you're dead.

The magazine can seat just far enough that it does not fall out of the gun, but not far enough that it will cycle rounds. There is too much tension with it being fully loaded. Short loading the magazine by 2 rounds solves this problem before it happens. If you think about it, having to reload two rounds earlier is much better than constant failure to fires.

Again, this is something you won't normally experience during mellow range time, the way most shooters train here in California where rapid fire and holsters are banned at most ranges. It usually only occurs when your body is stressed and you are rushing things and do not put enough force on the magazine to get it seated properly with all those rounds in it. So you could go for years without seeing it or knowing it is a problem. Then you get into a gun battle and have it happen right from the get go. It could very easily get you killed.

So I definately like the idea of having a higher capacity magazine for a .45. That way you are not walking around with out 6 rounds in an 8 round magazine.

Just my $0.02.

Supposedly the HK45C & USP45 Compact can use the same magazines.
