Looking for an entry level. My local shop can get what I want but I'd like to put my hands on some different ones.

How bout a used Colt Commander?

SoCal guns has a nice selection of new 1911s as well as some used Colts.

Fine Firearms, in La Mesa, also has a nice selection and they provide great customer service, too. They recently moved to a location on La Mesa Blvd., but you ought to be able to find them online.

Discount Gunmart in Santee had a brand new RIA for under $500 a couple of weeks ago.

John Timoney out in El Cajon usually has a few in stock. His prices will be lower than some of the others as well. He's open evenings and Saturday. I'd give him a call ahead just to be sure.
all the best,
Mike

Perhaps you should change the thread title if you want to look beyond San Diego.

Also try Royal Loan, their prices are decent and are great guys to deal with!

However, if you don't find what you want I'd just buy it online and transfer it through Gussler's, it's the most economical route.

Recently I bought a used Springfield Armory .45 Champion made in 1995. Contacted the mfg. and they recommended the new dual spring recoil assembly to replace the old one. This is one hell of a handgun and with the new recoil system the recoil is reduced and smoother.

So my suggestion is look for a good used handgun as I did, save a lot of cash and own a very nice shooter. Brand new is great, but often it is possible to buy TWO good guns for the price of one. Just be patient, do your homework, make phone calls, etc. and then be a happy camper. I rarely purchase NEW firearms, but do so on occasion. My preference is to try to keep some money in reserve for the "great buy" opportunity. They are out there waiting.
