View Full Version : Most Popular/Desirable Off-Roster Handguns?

Just wondering what are considered to be the most popular, desirable, and in-demand handguns that can't be purchased in California from an FFL/dealer because they're not on the official California Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale (http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/)?

Or have we forgotten how to lust after that which is no longer (easily) available?

I take it you have no out of state child, parent, or grandparent?

Edit: or in-state parent or grandparent, and an out of state sibling or niece/nephew?

FNP-45 Tactical would be on mine...but then I still couldn't get hicaps for it so how about some off roster 1911's?

H&K USP variations seem to draw a lot of attention.

When I mentioned i was moving to CA from NV - I had a number of people ask me if I happened to own an extra Mark 23 I could PPT when I got here.

A Mk23 w/o the threads being ground off would be a CA AW in addition to being off-roster.

and not surprisingly - I opted against it.
I did have somebody pressing hard too. Offered me hundreds of dollars above cost. Was pressing hard enough I was waiting for General Ackbar to pop his head up.

Can't you get non-threaded barrels for the Mark23?

I have a brother in Texas..dad and I are in California. Read up and posted questions about the interstate intrafamilial transfer. Was PSYCHED at the possibility. Called my my brother..and he's a felon :). I thought he got that exsponged years ago (over 10 years when it was on his record). Don't know about Texas law, but read that felons can owe a gun but must be on the premise. Can a felon buy a gun to gift it to his dad? I don't know. Tried searching the web, but seems like a lot of conflicting answers out there.

I don't know Texas law re gun ownership by felons, so can't help you there.

But does your brother in Texas have any adult (non-felon) children? One of them could gift to their grandfather in CA.

JohnFland,

no--younger brother is married but no children yet. TRUST me..I've thought about possbilities and just basically gave up last Friday when I ordered the Sig Pro 2022 with the new small grip.

I've thought about my brother's father-in-law, who is also in Texas, buys the Sig E2 and gifts it to his son in Los Angeles who then PPT it to me. Just thinking of getting the nerve to ask :)

This thread makes me sad. Actually, any thread about California gun laws makes me sad.

The crazy hoops you guys look for to get around bad law are amazing. I'd be depressed constantly -- you guys deal much better than I could.

I told my daughter that should she find an off-list handgun she'd like to let me know. I'll see it's in her stocking / on her b-day cake ...

Me too. A trip out of state is a real eye-opener as to just how firmly we are under the Nanny's thumb.

Ruger LCP, Taurus Judge would be my pick, off the top of my head. My Lady would like an LCP in Raspberry.;)

I just got back from a year in Texas... I held and fingered just about every gun not on the roster :(

Still doesn't feel right

IIRC, there is a CA-version of the P380 on the roster, but it is not available yet. Its got an LCI and mag disconnect.

The pawn shop should not be a problem. that 10 day wait period law will keep them from getting the guns.
