Its a great deal and just about as good a deal you'll get on this gun as I'm seeing popularity of it arising again. The best price I saw on a new one was on a Black Friday 2 years ago, had them for low $300s. I don't think you'll ever run into that price again.

I recently bought a new style one (yea.. sneaky Sig made a few updates) from TopGunSupply for $500 if that means anything to you. The difference between the two is that the newer styling has an external extractor, comes with 2 mags, alum alloy trigger, and an e2-like grip that has an internal lanyard loop. To me, these upgrades were worth the extra price, especially seeing how it comes with an extra mag and the new grips (roughly costing $50 give or take if you bought these separately).

If those new "upgrades" (as the SP2022 was fine before, just preference) aren't a must for you.. I'd say nab one of these up. I see them being sold on the SigForum, used for $450.

Here are pics of both styles:

you guys think this is better then Ruger SR9C?

gorenut
07-15-2010, 10:42 AM
Wow, didn't notice it was the no rail version. Some actually prefer it that way from an aesthetics standpoint.

I don't think its directly comparable to an SR9c. It depends on what you're going for. If you want a compact, get the Ruger. If you want a full sized polymer that shoots just as good and arguably better than a P-Series Sig right out of the box, get the 2022.

Update: Looking closer at the pic, its not a 2022. My mistakes. It appears to be a 2340 or 2009. My guess is that its a 2009. If so, it has a Sig proprietary rail.

If it's gonna sit inside a night stand then the SIG is the way to go. If you're gonna carry it, SR9c is obviously a better choice.

I am thinking about sellin 1month old Ruger SR9c for Sig...

Bullwinkle
07-15-2010, 12:38 PM
I went to the Turner's website and zoomed the "In Store Ad" up to it's highest magnification. Then using a magnifying glass on top of that, I believe the slide said SP2009... but it was awfully grainy, so don't take my word for it.

If the pistol has a rail, it's a SP2022 (that's one of the changes Sig made to the SP2009/2340 for that U.S. Armored Tank Command or whatever it was that drove the design of the SP2022); no rails, then it's a SP2009, which is a discontinued model. The photo doesn't have rails... but it could be an old stock photo that they use, too. Call and ask, because the SP2009 has been discontinued for awhile, and I also find it unusual that the ad doesn't say "Only xxx available" or "Limited to stock on hand". Note that the ad says the pistol only comes with one magazine.

The last time Turner's sold the Sig Pro for that price was right when Sig discontinued the SP2009/2340. I know... I bought one and kept it until my stepson turned 21, then transferred it to him for a gift. He loves it; I've shot it and I like it a lot, too, although the grip is a little too small for me. A lot less recoil than I expected, and Sig quality through and through. First couple range trips the empty casings were just barely eeking out of the ejection port; but never a failure to eject at any time. Once the pistol was broken in, the shells started flying. He has been using it over a year, and it's 100% reliable thus far.

Considering that I paid the same price Turner's is asking for now about three or four years ago, and also considering that the MSRP of a new SP2022 is $613 according to the Sig website, and considering my and my stepson's personal experience with it thus far, I would have to say that not only is it a fantastic deal--anytime you can get a Sig under $400 it's fantastic--but [b]HELL YEAH it's a fantastic deal!!! :)

Jump on it... even if it's the SP2009.

That is a great price on any high-end brand. I'm not the biggest Sig fan in the world, but if I were in the market for an addition to my collection and came accross that deal I would buy it.

Sig Sauer PRO 9mm for $399 at Turner's
is this good deal???

I'll make a prediction. Within 1 yr after you buy it, you'll have wished that you spent $500 on something more popular. You should first check out the price of extra mags, then see if you can find a holster. I used to own a Sig Pro, they are nice pistols but no affordable support.

I'll make a prediction, too. Not that this has anything to do with the pistol, per se, but something to consider nevertheless. If you have a Significant Other, I predict she'll enjoy shooting the Sig Pro also, certainly more than a SR9c. Just make sure you have the smaller of the two backstrap inserts installed.

Stop spreading FUD. There are plenty of holster options available (Google is your friend) and SIG mags are usually more expensive.

There is now a smaller version of the grip. Large/Medium/Small. Just picked one up from TopGun Supply. Haven't installed it yet. Sig forum has a thread showing all three. Thinner and more textured. Just what I was looking for! Also there is a new edition of the sp 2022 comes with the small. Big PROPS to Topgun Supply and Tom!!! Great service.:)

I would jump on this now because they stopping bringing them in the U.S.

you always can get a Sr9c if you miss it.

the SigPro is like the most underestimated model in the whole Sig lineup. the trigger are good out of the box and they have a reputation for being very accurate. their low cost is a reflection of the fact that much of their R&D was off set when they got the French contract. they were never really all that popular, so Sig didn't spend more money updating them or adding bells and whistles.

the SigPro is an excellent value and would be my pick over a Ruger SR9c...but then i prefer guns with hammers. the last SigPro i fired was one chambered in 357Sig that was riding in a duty rig...that was a very sweet gun

I love this gun (I've got the SP2009) and got it for around that price last time which was a few years ago. I'd definitely do it again if I didn't already have one. Called a friend of mine and suggested she check it out too. Mags are a bit pricey, but it seems like so many are now days. The current Turner Sig Pro only comes with 1 mag, so take that into account.

Seriously just my luck. I called 2 weeks ago about the 2022 because it seems like Turners gets a shipment of em once a year or so. The guy on the phone was like "sorry, haven't had em in a while" so I went ahead and ordered at TGS for $500 a week ago. Though even at $500 its a great buy. You guys getting it for $399 are getting it at a steal.

One of you mentioned that the ones in Turners comes with an external extractor. What about the grips? Does it say Sig Sauer or Sig Pro? Can someone verify?

stove pipe
07-16-2010, 10:25 AM
Note that the Turner's version is the "Old Style" SP2022 with the larger grip, no lanyard hole, no night sights and one magazine.

The TGS version is the "New Style" SP2022 with a smaller grip, lanyard hole, external extractor, night sights and two magazines. Ten round mags can be swapped for the 15 rounders.

So, the TGS version costs more but it includes more.

Just wanted to take a moment to let you all know that I hate you! The enthusiasm that was generated on this thread--including my own posts--drove me to the brink. I was parked outside the Turner's front door at 9:40am, and just returned a few hundred dollars more in debt! :p

FYI - Assuming the ones in the warehouse are the same as the display model, these are the latest version SP2022, with external extractor etc. I never touched it--simply walked up to the counter and said, "I want a Sig Pro"--but as I was leaving another guy asked to look at the display model and that's when I noticed the external extractor (on the top of the slide, right?) and no lanyard loop visible. I "assume" they have all three backstrap inserts included, but I didn't even think to ask. I did not notice the sights, so can't say if they're Siglites or not. The Sig website says Siglites are standard... but then, so are two magazines, you know? This has to be a special configuration for Turner's or something. Doesn't matter as far as I'm concerned.

So you all owe me some money (minus my share of the blame)! :)

Special thanks to Canuckyraider for sharing the info about the new 'small' sized backstrap insert. If there isn't one included in the box, I know where to find one. Add a short trigger, and I'm confident my wife will love it. Oh yeah, my wife... now I have to figure out a way to tell her! Okay, you guys really owe me now!!! ;)

OmutaX
07-16-2010, 11:04 AM
No, that little thing on the top of the slide is a CA compliant chamber loaded indicator. I can't remember whether the pistol had an external extractor or not, I was just too excited by the fact that I had the opportunity to buy a new Sig for under $500 out the door. :D

The salesman reassured me very specifically by the way that these included all the extra backstraps, including large and small versions. The one on it by default was the medium.

NSR500
07-16-2010, 11:18 AM

OmutaX
07-16-2010, 11:38 AM
It only comes with one mag. The sights were just painted vertical stripe and dot, not night sights. But I was promised that all three backstraps were included.

Those 4586's are solid guns, but I am not a fan of that generation of S&W autos. Also, the Bud's sale is on used PD trade-ins. I am sure they are in great shape, though.

As for the Sigma, also a solid performer, but not a Sig.

I haven't ordered a firearm from them yet, but I've ordered parts for my P228 and they are quick to ship and "Tom" drops in a autographed business card. So I'm sure if you have any questions or concerns they would be happy to answer them.

Yup. Tom will make em CA legal by replacing the mags with ten rounders .

Yes..two mags,

Turners, one mag, $399 + $35 DROS +$43 Tax = $477
Top Gun, two mags, $399 + $18 shipping + $70 DROS = $487

Is a guaranteed new style with one extra mag worth $10 plus a little more time? I think so although I like to support my local vendors they pissed me off this morning when I called to reserve one (which they usually do because I get/do so much business with them) but my usual guy (the manager) is not there and when I told them the person who answered the phone (a non manager) he usually does, he said "the manager's not supposed to do that....what's the big deal, they'll be plenty when you get off work"...

Now I see from the posts that they're all out. PISS ME OFF....ok enough of the rants. The information below is from the Top Gun website.

Sig Sauer SIGPRO 2022 9mm, Standard Fixed Sights. DA/SA - New Style
SKU: E2022-9-B-STD SIGHTS

This brand new SP2022 9mm features a short alloy trigger, bar dot sights, external extractor, loaded chamber indicator, DA/SA, two 15RD magazines, German black box, lock and manual. These have a new style small grip with internal lanyard loop.

I had SP2022 before in .40 with 9mm conversion barrel.
Don't fooled by the low price. It is Sig.
I'm Glock Fan and I love glock but compare the quality of polymer to Sig... Sig is better also the fitting is better I think.
It is good pistol and $399 is really good price.
I once heard that Sig Pro models are most under estimated pistol.

I look at it this way -- the Sig Pro line are probably the lower end of the Sig pistol line-up, but it is still a friggin' Sig.

It's kind of like saying it is the lower end of the Mercedes Benz line -- it may not be the best they have to offer -- but it is still Mercedes.

ironically the Sig Pro is considered by many to be the best that Sig currently offers. it is often referred to as understated; the best buy of combat handguns. it may arguably be at the top of the heap. i've shot one and liked it; the grips were a little big for me, but they've got a smaller grip on this platform now and i wouldn't mind seriously considering ownership of one.

These are a great deal at $399, especially considering their somewhat spotty availability over the past year. Definitely not a gun you can reliably find in stores or online to purchase. Buds had them for 426 in Feb/Mar, and that was the last time I've seen them in stock.

For those of you who are getting the Turners deal in 9-10 days, could you please post back here to tell us what exactly came in the box? It seems I was misinformed when the salesman who took the deposit on mine said it would come with the multiple grip panels and I believe the consensus here that it comes with only the medium grip.

I'm thinking about ordering the new style small grip and short trigger from Top Gun Supply if only the medium grip is coming on mine.

It was because Turners' in store package is different than their warehouse package. Turner will give you the same deal ($399) for any Sig pro they have on display or the ones from their warehouse which is 2022, one mag, 2 grips.

My brother bought one at the Fountain Valley store yesterday and had to put down a deposit as they ran out of stock. They honored the sale price of 399 and it comes with 2 mags, the external extractor, case, lock, and standard white line up sites. Real nice pistol and a steal at that price IMO.

My Turner's receipt says:

399.98 - Sig Sauer SP2022 Sig Pro Blue 9mm

That is what is confusing me. The turners pic, which may be incorrect, obviously shows a version with the sig proprietary rail, leading us to believe it is a 2340 or a discontinued 2009.

But zman's receipt information says 2022, which means it should come with the 1913 rail? No?

Stores usually use the closest picture they can get to represent what they are trying to sell. Pictures usually make the sale.

If it says 2022 on the reciept, you will be getting the model with the 1913 rail.

If you end up getting a 2009 instead, I say still get it and get some money back or some ammo or goodies in lieu of their "misrepresentation".

These things are gonna be hard to get in the future, so get them while you can.

Also note that depending on what staff you talk to at the FV store.. they might not know a lick of when they'll get more in stock. I called the very same Turner's a week before I purchased mine from TGS (which was about a week before the sale at Turners) and asked if they had any 2022s in stock. The guy told me they haven't had them for quite some time and didn't look like they'll get any in the future.

All you who are getting it $399 with the newer styling grips, consider yourselves blessed. I just picked mine up yesterday and the grips alone makes the newer styling feel so much better. The reason why I've always held off on actually purchasing a Sig Pro in the past was due to the grips.

I paid $499 with night sights and 2 mags, so even at that price I really feel like I'm getting my moneys worth (if not more). My friends who like the P-Series but never handled the Sig Pro before... actually think they like the 2022 better.

All you who are getting it $399 with the newer styling grips, consider yourselves blessed.Plural? Are all three grips styled differently, or are you only talking about the smallest grip panel they just came out with? I have an 'XL' hand, so I'll be installing the largest grip insert. Well, no, I'll actually be setting the pistol up for my wife; but if she doesn't like it, then I'll be putting on the large insert. :) So if the large/medium ones have a different contour to them, I'd be interested in knowing about it.

My friends who like the P-Series but never handled the Sig Pro before... actually think they like the 2022 better.Nah, no way is the 2022 better. Well, then again, I have Hogue's installed on my P-pistols, and it makes all the difference in the world. I remember I wasn't too fond of the stock grips. I think the P226's were okay (though small for me), but the P229's felt like I was trying to balance an anvil on a straw. With the Hogue's, however, life is good, and much better than the SP2009 that I've handled. It'll be interesting to compare when I pick up the 2022 from 10-day jail.

gorenut
07-22-2010, 10:45 AM
My mistake. Definitely meant the small grips. I don't think the small grips are necessarily for small hands... I just think they're more comfortable with most hands in general. I have largish hands and the small girps not only feel better (texture, shape, etc), but my hands just contour them better.

I'm with you brother, I like P226 better than the SP2022.. but at less than half the price (even a third in some cases).. the SP2022 is definitely a better buy/value. I'll still favor my P226, but the SP2022 will definitely see ALOT of range time.

So when I finally see it go on sale for $499, I purchase and all these crazy price drops happen. I would have easily been more than happy to just shell out the $280 for a used and buy new grips from TGS. Just my luck. These could be 2022's, with the true 1913 Pic rail, which did come in 357/40.

I'm gonna visit tomorrow.

Sucks that I can only DROS one handgun in a 30 day period.

Guess if it is a 2022 I'll pay for it in full and request not to start DROS until I get the brand new 9mm.

I am admittingly a Turners fan.. had nothing short of outstanding service there (sig hill) but due to the fact all the stores are competing for central stock.. pay in full and secure a s/n.. otherwise you may end up in the Turners-bashing club.. there are too many circumstances beyond the local control.. a manager's blessing may do the trick.. better you discuss it in detail with senior staff or manager..

keep a good line of comms with them and you're story will have a happy ending.. good luck to you..

Even though the sp2022 is a quality gun, I'm not a big fan of SA/DA triggers. I'm glad I waited and will probably get a glock or another xd.

I ordered 3 10-round 9mm mags for the 2022, new Sig factory, for a little over $60 shipped on gunbroker. It's reasonably priced and comparable to Glocks. But if you like tinkering and that's your thing, doesn't get any easier with a Glock.

I personally bought a 2022 because it is different from the pistols I own, and it was my chance to purchase a new, entry-level Sig Sauer for an affordable price. Also, I must be one of the few guys out there who likes DA/SA triggers. Maybe because I learned to shoot with them first.

I just purchased 2 factory mags for $15 each. I think thats cheap considering P-Series mags go for double that. You also do realize that Sig Pros are on pretty much the largest non-military handgun contract due to the French police? I don't speculate there'll be any shortage of parts. Plus these are arguably more durable than P-Series Sigs, so your gun shouldn't be breaking under normal circumstances. The 2022 uses picatinny rail system, so its not like theres shortages of lasers or lights you can put on. Ofcourse if you always wanted a Glock, go for it, just saying you shouldn't let parts, etc detour you from this gun if you want it.

Do a search on Gunbroker in the Pistol Parts > Magazines / Clips section for Sig Pro 2009 9mm 10RD. There's a place in Alabama that sells factory new for pretty cheap in groups of 2, 3 and 5.

Sig Pro SP2022 and SP2009 both use the same Sig Pro 9mm mags.

if u need a 2022 magazine look hereAlas, I'm on the alternate list (all mags are SPF at this time). :(

But it got me thinking...

We're all in the same boat here, right? I'm not a good "wheeler & dealer" type person, or I'd look into this myself; but I know there are others who live for haggling... er... negotiating. What are the chances of a group buy direct from Sig (or any vendor, for that matter)? I figure it's probably not very feasible if for no other reason than the problems of collecting money and distribution of the items; but I'm in for at least two if it can be done and it's a good enough deal (i.e. at least as good as the guy offering them on gunbroker.com... who I believe just jacked his price up a couple bucks, if I'm seeing & remembering things correctly).

I picked my 2022 today,,,it was grease monkey gun..Picked mine up yesterday, too. Hate the packing grease on new guns... but a necessary evil. Field stripped it and wiped it down with napkins (only thing available at the time). It looks ready to roll, save for a quick stroke of a bore snake.

These pistols are "different" than the normal ones sold by Sig in the USA. I mean, of course the pistol's the same--and a dang fine pistol it is (especially for plastic)--but the entire packaging is different. It comes in a black normal-sized (thank God!) case instead of a humongous monstrosity blue case, and it has a differently designed interior. It must be imported overstock from the German factory or something. And did anyone else notice that the Owners Manual doesn't match the pistol? 99% is okay, but one particular section is a dead giveaway (describing a feature of the most recent version of the SP2022 that isn't on this pistol). Oh my God... and now that I think about it, I just realized there was no Warranty Card in my package! Okay, now I'm more than just a little curious about the source/history of these pistols.

Anyway, when all is said and done, I'm a happy camper.

Oh, can someone answer a question? Are these pistols already installed with a Short Trigger? While in 10-day DROS jail I ordered one, and comparing what I received to the trigger already installed on the pistol, they look identical to me (at least the visible portion). Is it really a Short Trigger on the pistol?

And while I'm asking things... what's the secret to removing the backstrap insert? I tried and tried, and I just can't get that stupid thing off!

Thanks!

Any one having problems with their new SP2022? Just took mine out to the range and having failure to feed and failure to eject problems on every round. I think it only cycled correctly once. Tried Remington and Federal ammo (115 gr FMJ RN) and several different mags. I would say 90% was FTE and 9% was FTF. 1% was the time it actually cycled correctly. One of the instructors at the range looked at it and said send it back to Sig. Any thoughts or anyone else having the same problem?

Day 2
This time I did a real cleaning and lube. Then I racked the slide about 200 times. Seemed like the main spring needed some "break in." I left the slide locked back overnight and proceeded to the range this morning. Loaded 5 mags and the results:

Mag 1 - Two failure to ejects
Mag 2-4 - No issues other then brass ejecting about two inches out. I even had one eject up and left. Some hit my hand and arm.
Mag 5 - Slide did not lock back on last round.

Looks like she just needs to be broken in or replace the main spring with a lower rated one. She'll probably be fine after a couple of hundred rounds. Seems like all the new firearms I buy have issues and the used ones run like champs. They really don't make them like they used to.

If your SP2022 is not locking back on the last round, it is most likely the shooter. The design of the gun puts the stop/release right near the thumb and you may be resting your finger on it.

I have a theory about the SP2022 ejection pattern. It might be because the LCI is right on top.
It could be that upon ejection the LCI applies some pressure onto the rim of the cartridge before it leaves the gun.

When my stepson and I started shooting his SP2009....
First couple range trips the empty casings were just barely eeking out of the ejection port; but never a failure to eject at any time. Once the pistol was broken in, the shells started flying. He has been using it over a year, and it's 100% reliable thus far.

So we're talking about 200-250 rounds before things broke in and it started operating as you would expect. Unfortunately for 'sniper4usmc', we didn't experience any flying directly back into our faces, so your problem is unique. When I said the spent casings were barely eeking out, I mean they were barely clearing the ejection port and falling almost straight down. Never a malfunction of any kind, though.

I haven't had a chance to take mine out yet, nor will I have for a couple weeks minimum due to schedules and what not. Based on the experience with the SP2009 and what many are saying in this thread, I'm not expecting a flawless first couple of range sessions, which is sad, but I do have faith that once broken in these will be wonderful pistols to us all.

BTW: The Sig P220 used to have an internal extractor also. Nothing wrong with it. The external is better (less likelihood for breakage), but there are a lot of fine P220's out there with internal extractors (and 1911's also). I think the change is more about parts compatibility during the manufacturing process (i.e. attempting to use the same part on multiple models); but that's purely a not-so-educated guess on my part, not gospel.

No the CA required NEW test pistol to be equipped with LCI and Magazine safety to pass the test to be on Roster. Sig 2022 was on the Roster before that change into the law. As long as Sig keep paying the renewal fee, Sig 2022 will keep staying on the Roster.

There are at lease 5+ different version of Sig 2022 out there. Different finish, external/internal ejector, 1 or 2 or 3 backstraps in the box, 1 or 2 mags in the box...etc.

Glad to hear yours is working well. I was concerned that we got some lemons. I get mine next Sunday and will post a report. Sounds like yours sp2022 was from stock at hand. Yours came with LCI and medium grips? I believe many are coming without LCI and small grips. I wonder if there is a difference between those at stock and those that came from warehouse?

Yes, mine was stock piece, got it from Norwalk Turner. Came with two mags and one med backstrap, ilaflon finish and LCI.
If you get from Turner's store inventory, they might have different version/package.

I believe the warehouse version was blued, small backstrap, no LCI and one mag.

I just bought a Sig Pro, and am experiencing malfunctions. Did I get a lemon?

While 300 rounds are usually quoted for most semi-auto pistols, it takes a good 500 rounds to properly break-in a Sig Pro. If you continue to experience malfunctions past the 500-round point, contact Sig-Sauer.

You guys are making me nervous. I pick mine up in 8 days and will post then how it shoots.

Interesting that the Sig Pro needs a break-in. My P-series Sigs did not (or, at least, I didn't notice -- they shot fine right out of the box).

Mine did not need any breaking in. Out of the box the darn thing has not had any issues with feed or function.
Do I get hit with brass sometimes, sure. But it doesn't bother me much to do anything about it.

It's strange that I've heard nothing but praise about Sig Pros before, not even a hiccup. Then all of a sudden they get a huge surplus of these at a very low price (its happened in the past, but not in these large numbers), amongst several vendors.. and now I'm finally hearing about problems. I know it can directly relate to more users = more chance of problems.. but not at this percentage when in the past its been almost 100% positive opinion on Sig Pros. The other FUD, skeptical mindset, wouldn't make sense for Sig in tarnishing their name - the speculation that these are cheap because they didn't pass QC or something along those lines (then again, there were those Mosquitos....)

Well, I've yet to test mine out yet, but mine has an external extractor, night sights, new grips, and cost me $499. Hope its not in the same group as these lemons that have been popping up in less than comforting numbers.

I have had mine for 2 years. Night sites, internal extractor. No problems. I have a 220st internal extractor no probs either. Gorenut you're on sig forum. Im to lazy to use a proper email address to log on there. Have not read anything on sigforum about these newer model 2022.

I have had mine for about 6 months. I bought mine from Impact. No problems whatsoever and pistol has been amazing. Trigger pull out of the box is nice and factory night site's are solid. Gun does everything I wanted and more and is decently lightweight.

Yea, but thats the deal.. most on the Sig forum who have a 2022 or any other Sig Pro for that matter.. got it before the most recent influx. Most the people here got theirs from Turner's. I got mine from TGS. Its probably just a coincidence.

Are you sure? You said earlier that you didn't have a LCI and the LCI models have the internal extractor.

I got mine from TGS as well, its the older style with night sights and i have had no issues at all, it may be an issue with the external extractor.

and no LCI? that is strange, you have the new back strap, no LCI but an internal extractor. I thought there was only 2 types,

1- "old" style- Medium grips, internal extractor and LCI
2- "new" style- Small grips, external extractor and LCI

Yeah thats a strange set up, i wonder if there was a 3rd type of 2022 but not having the LCI is strange because the old and new style uses it.
