not melrose mac
they can't even get the bottom case on my macbook sqaure straight, they must be retarded or brain dead. i was telling them they need to adjust it where my drive works well where i don't have to push the CD in all the way, the corners of the battery to the bottom case is all cockeyed, DON'T go to Melrose Mac, they have two locations, in hollywood and burbank, don't know about anyone else

my warranty did have me send it into a place called iresq.com
dunno if they do work for individuals but it was quick, turn around was quick and everything looks real good

ETA- yes my macbook breaks that much, and i thoguht they were so great....

What is the problem with the laptop? Hardware issue?

Perhaps we can help.

I've been known to fix those. :)

What's the problem, exactly?

Sometimes when I hit the power button to turn it on, I can hear the hard drive begin to spin, but the screen doesn't light up.I have to turn it off and on several times and then sometimes it will start booting up, other rimes it won't start and I have to wait a few hours before it will start.I bought the laptop in December 2006, this is the first time I've any problems with it.

DTT-very trustworthy and affordable (norcal though, I've shipped stuff from socal to them:

Look up instructions for resetting your power manager (differs for different computers):
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
Backup and erase your hard drive, then install fresh os and import data from backup...
Do an archive and install of the OS...
Create a "test account" with admin privs, make that your startup and work from that for a bit, that can eliminate some OS probs, not a long term solution obviously but a good way to narrow things down

The problem you describe (without much detail) can be elusive to solve

Can you see an image on the LCD if you look closely? Sounds like it may just be the backlight that's not turning on.

Do you hear the boot-chime every time it turns on?

Does the sleep-light on the front of the unit flash or blink when it won't start up properly?

Check out this Apple Knowledge Base article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379?viewlocale=en_US

Follow the instructions for "Resetting PRAM and NVRAM" and see if that helps at all.

Check out Di-No Computers in Pasadena. The few people that I know that have mac's have always taken their stuff there whenever they needed something fixed.

Make a genius bar appointment and take it to the apple store for an eval
first.

Shouldn't cost you anything and they can also recommend you to a
trusted local shop.
