so in a month or 2 my family and i are planning on going to the grand canyon not sure wich state we'll be resting at or passing through im guessing arizona but in any case my question is pertaining to the gun laws out there as far as oc and cc. i read on a sit that on feb 22nd this year there was a new law passed allowing both cc and oc at the location but not in federal buildings. im yet to find if that law has been put in place or if it was shot down. when i go to the grandcanyon website and look at rules and regs it said firearms are prohibited so if some one could clear this confusion for me ide appreciate it.

The basics of what you need to know is linked in here. (http://www.nps.gov/grca/parkmgmt/lawsandpolicies.htm) You need to follow local and state laws, and any federally owned building is supposed to be clearly sign posted.

If you still have questions I'd call park headquarters and ask.

Google is your friend!

GCNP is in AZ but is surrounded by National Forrest & Indian Reservations. There are several National Monuments in the area that you wish to visit. As such one needs to be watchful of your location when carrying firearms.

AZ is a VERY firearms friendly state. Be sure to check for no firearms signs in local businesses. While now a no CCW needed carry state, a CCW is required if you wish to carry in a bar or restaurant serving alcohol.

Its funny, I was there a month ago & saw LOTS of the signs forbidding concealed carry in just about every establishment I visited, both at the canyon itself, & in Williams

It's slowly going back the other direction as these businesses come to understand how much business ($$) it's costing them.

The law is in place. When I visited Arizona last March, we went to visit the Grand Canyon. I concealed carried all along the South rim no problems but I can tell you for a fact that there is no firearms allowed in any buildings that have government employes inside. And at the Grand Canyon thats about all buildings. At all the doors, they posted small stickers that had a handgun with a red line through them. I personally wouldnt OC there just so I wouldnt cause any problems with tourist and park rangers. Out of sight out of mind is my thinking. I do have a CCW for the state of Arizona but thats no longer needed. You just need to be a American Citizen whos law abiding and legally able to posses a firearm.
