I heard this today, walmart to stop selling guns and a lot of their stores. Really ticks me off. I personally cannot stand walmart but the only thing that kept me interested was some of the sporting good stuff. Obviously as the company changed hands from a normal man (sam walton) to a politically correct corp, we lose all the great things they once offered. Guns..
Our worthless buddy said:
Some gun control activists are pleased by Wal-Mart's decision to cut back on firearm sales, and that it demonstrates a declining market for guns.
"We think it's significant," said Josh Sugarmann, executive director of the Violence Policy Center, an anti-gun group. "Wal-Mart is reacting to the marketplace."

If walmart had lowers, i wonder what would happen then. lol. The only thing declining would be their stock in the back room, or their 4473 forms lol

I have mixed emotions about the thing. I'm seriously annoyed about them dropping their ammo, but it's a good thing they're getting out of the gun business. The most stupid things I've ever heard come from behind a gun counter, all came from Wal-Mart.
If they aren't willing to staff their gun section with employees who know something about firerams, then they shouldn't be selling them. If Wally World really is the biggest gun store in the US, then their getting out will drive more business to the mom and pop stores and small chains.

I know Walmart stopped selling in CA because staff scewed up but I partly blame the overly complicated way CA does things. For the rest of the country, I don't see the paperwork being as bad for staff to screw it up. It doesn't affect me that they don't sell because they stopped so long ago but it does erk me that this is used as a propaganda spin.

Doesn't sound like a PC move to me at all. Sounds like a marketing move. Sam Walton may have been a hunter, but Walmart has always been about maximizing profit. If, by not selling rifles, they can open a store in Chicago, I'm sure they will.
Besides, the gun crowd has been slamming Walmart for years on every internet forum possible. According to popular (gun crowd) belief, Walmart staff was criminally uninformed, the merchandise shoddy, and low prices drove the "real" gun stores out of business. Shouldn't we be celebrating?

I also read that it's because the 1,000 stores have low profits from the firearm sales. They stock maybe 2 shotguns, a 10/22, and then a bunch of airsoft crap & BB guns. Local gun shops are happy that Wal-Mart is getting out of the business.
But the anti-gun folks are dip****s. They're latching onto this like it was some sort of victory for them when likely they had absolutely nothing to do with it.
